John Deere 1870 Air-Hoe Drill

• Critical for consistent emergence • The 1870 allows for independent hydraulic adjustment of the seed and fertilizer trip forces in order to conform to specific field conditions and offer more consistent depth across the frame.

• The seed openers adjust on each shank. The depth is controlled by adjusting each individual opener up or down and then clamped tightly in place, rather than using holes and pins that wear out and create depth issues.

• Fertilizer can be placed 2-6” deep • Breakout force can be adjusted between 100-800 lbs. Especially important in hard or rocky soil conditions.

• The 1870 allows the application of dry, liquid, and anhydrous ammonia fertilizer. Different knives and tips can be put on to accommodate different fertilizer forms.

• Used to detect hoses that are blocked and not allowing seed and/or fertilizer to flow • The sensors are in-line with the secondary hoses • One side of the sensor transmits infrared light, while the other side receives it. When fertilizer or seed is flowing through the hoses the sensors detect the movement going through the hoses. If the machine is being operated and the sensors are not detecting seed or fertilizer flow the sensors will send a show precisely which hose is blocked.

• 3.5” wide, ensures 100% seed-soil contact with the 3” furrow • V-shaped to conform to the shape of the furrow • Scraper to prevent soil build-up

Wing Leveling Main Frame Leveling

Only need a wrench for leveling the wings, nothing new here either.

• Tires are narrower than on some older models, maybe preventing some soil disturbance.

• Tires are spaced so that they do not run over the seed row. I believe that this is more of a sales pitch than anything else. In most no-till operations running over the seed row now and then does not hurt anything unless soil is soft or wet.

• Implementing moisture conservation farming practices • From the precise seed and fertilizer placement to the minimal tillage disturbance system, the John Deere 1870 optimizes farming operations.

• Hydraulic shanks are the main part of the 1870. They provide consistent depth control for enhanced seed placement, resulting in more even emergence. The hydraulic shank seeding tool uses a rigid frame for strength and support. The openers are designed to allow independent down force for a more uniform depth across the entire width of the frame.

• Seed and fertilizer separation are not compromised when seeding. The ConservaPak design allows for banding fertilizer to 6 in. within the seedbed and up to 4.5 in. of separation between the seed and fertilizer. The deep fertilizer opener doubles as a tillage tool to shatter the hard pan for improved root development, water infiltration, and seedbed warmth.

• The seeding depth has clamp-type adjustments in order to prevent slack from the old hole and pin style adjustments.

• Fertilizer can placed from 2-6 inches deep. Liquid, dry or anhydrous can be used with the 1870.

• Blockage warning system that tells the operator if and where a hose may be blocked.

• V-shaped press wheels that ensure good seed-soil contact.

• Unique tires to the1870, again probably a sales pitch.
