What is BYOD?
• BYOD is an acronym for Bring Your Own Device.
• A “device” is defined as a privately owned
laptop, tablet computing device, netbook,
notebook, e-Reader, iPod Touch, iPad, or
smartphone.
• For this program, “device” also includes any
similar product owned by CCPS and provided
for student use.

Phase 1 classroom implementation

Who determines when I can use my
personal mobile device?
Teachers determine when use of mobile
devices is appropriate and allowed within
your classroom.

• Internet enabled devices that can connect to the
district’s wireless network
• These devices may include, but are not limited to:

How will I access the internet?
• Students will access the internet through the
CCPS BYOD wireless network on a registered
device.
• The CCPS BYOD wireless network will provide
filtered internet access as well as access to
some other District systems and resources.
• Any and all access to the CCPS BYOD wireless
network may be monitored for the purposes
of network security and student safety.

What are my responsibilities as a
student?
• Read and adhere to the CCPS Responsible Use
Agreement.
• Access the internet through the CCPS BYOD
network only. (Access of the internet through
data plans such as 3G/4G networks is
prohibited.)
– CCPS is not responsible for any data or app
charges that a student may incur from a service
provider.

What are my responsibilities as a
student?
• Use of the CCPS BYOD network is for instructional
and school related purposes only. Students may
not use any device or service for non-educational
purposes during school hours, unless granted
permission by a school administrator or teacher.
• Devices may only be used in certain approved areas
of the school. Students may not use devices in
parts of the school designated as no technology
zones or any other areas where devices are not
permitted.

What are my responsibilities
as a student?
• You are responsible for the condition of the your
device including updates, antivirus software and any
repairs.
• Personal devices should be brought to school fully
charged and should be capable of lasting a full school
day without recharging.
• You are fully responsible, at all times, for personal
devices brought to school. CCPS is not liable for any
loss, damage, or theft of personally owned devices.

What are some of the other
guidelines in place for students?
• For classes where the teacher has opted to use a
social media site for communication and/or
assignments, the only approved social media site for
the CCPS BYOD program is Edmodo.
• No device, personal or otherwise, may be used to
record, store, or transmit any type of image, sound or
video from CCPS, except for approved projects and
with the express permission of the teacher.

What are some of the other
guidelines in place for students?
If reasonable belief exists that the student has
violated the terms of the Responsible Use
Agreement, or other district policy, the student's
device may be inspected and/or confiscated.
Subsequent or additional disciplinary action
involving misuse of technology may extend to loss of
technology privileges or further action as
determined by CCPS.

What are my parent’s
responsibilities?
• Carefully read and review the Responsible Use
Agreement that is located online within the
CCPS Parent Portal BYOD section with you.
You must both agree to this policy in order to
participate.
• Monitor that your device is in proper working
order and is fully charged daily.
• Monitor your usage of your mobile
devices.

When will I register my device?
Devices may only be registered after you
and your parent/guardian have agreed to
the Responsible Use Agreement.

How will I register my device?
• The first time you connect to the internet
using your device on the CCPS BYOD network
you will need to enter your login information.
(This will be the user ID and password you use
to access the computer network at school.)
• It is a violation of the CCPS Responsible Use
Agreement to use your login information to
sign into any device owned by another
student.

What if I don’t have a device to bring
to school?
• Not every student will have their own device.
• The District will provide access to the internet
via classroom computers and a limited
number of mobile devices.
• You may collaborate with another student as
appropriate with your teacher’s permission.
