AN OVERVIEW OF FCSIT (FSKTM)
•
Computer Centre was officially formed in – 1965. Mainly for the provision of
computer facilities and services.
•
Dec 1969 - The Computer Centre took on an additional role of teaching and
research of computer science and information technology.
•
1974 - Diploma in Computer Science postgraduate programme was introduced.
With the inception in the 1974/75 session to the 1999/2001 session, a total of 304
students had been awarded the Diploma.
•
Along the way, started in 1985 – Bachelor Degree as well as Master of Computer
Science and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes were introduced.
•
April 1993 - proposed for the establishment of a faculty
establishment of the Faculty on Sept 1994.
•
From Semester I, 1995/1996 Academic Session, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Master
of Computer Science & Master of Library & Information Science Programme has
been offered.
•
For Semester I, 2013/2014 Academic Session, now is Batch 37.

Chairman & 1 member who is an expert in the field and a supervisor. A fourth member is allowed to be appointed if
necessary.
The same panel should follow through the proposal presentation and Candidature Defence.
It is strongly recommended that one member is appointed as internal examiner.
The main responsibilities of the panel should include the following:a) Advise the student to improve the research proposal.
b) Monitor the progress of the student
c) Improve the research plan.
*Applicable to all international candidates.
** Applicable to international candidates who are writing their dissertation in languages other than English.

greater in the semester which the course is

Failed and Terminated
A candidate may be terminated from his programme of study if
he/she-
i.

does not achieve after three attempts the minimum pass grade for
all courses for which the Faculty has made compulsory to obtain in
order to pass;
has obtained a GPA of less than 3.00 (even though more than
2.00) for three consecutive Normal Semesters.
has obtained a GPA of less than 2.00 in two consecutive Normal
Semesters.

FOR COURSEWORK PART
Academic Probationary Period
Any candidate with a GPA below 3.00 in any semester shall be given a
Probation and will be placed under an Academic Probationary Period in
the following normal semester.
The Period shall continue until the candidate has achieved a GPA of 3.00.

At FCSIT, our classrooms and laboratories are
equipped with sophisticated computers and
audio-visual tools.

Our wireless networks are available from any
classrooms, laboratories and the foyers of the
faculty’s building.
•
Our e-learning system called Spectrum is used
intensively in the delivery of all courses.
•
The faculty has its own library, canteen and surau
and there is shuttle bus service in campus.
•
All students are privileged to access UM’s library
and other well known digital libraries for free.

Students also have free access to UM Sports
Centre and many more.
