Qualtrics Survey Software

Objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
• Describe some of the special features of the
Qualtrics software
• Explain how to create and distribute a survey, gather
data, and select reporting options
• Determine if Qualtrics is a good fit for specific
projects
What is Qualtrics?
An online survey software available through the HSC
It enables users to:
• create survey instruments
• distribute them electronically
• track participation
• send invitations and reminders
• display survey results graphically and statistically
• export raw data in a variety of formats

How do I access Qualtrics?
• Open a web browser window (i.e. Internet Explorer,
Mozilla Firefox, etc.)
• Access Qualtrics: www.tamuhsc.qualtrics.com and click
on “Create a New Account.” Type in your HSC email
address and then create a personal password
• Log-in by entering your username and password
The software…
• is user-friendly but can handle complex designs
• can be used to produce simple surveys in minutes with a
“quick survey builder” guide for beginners
• complex studies, involving randomization and embedded
and longitudinal data, are also possible

• Select the question that the skip logic will be
inserted after
• Click on “Add Skip Logic”
• Select “Done”
Survey Flow
• Display Logic - It will help you if you need something
more than just ''and if'' logic. You can conditionally
display entire questions or individual statements in a
matrix table.
• Branch Logic - Skip or display entire sections of
questions; create multiple termination points within a
survey.
• Loop and Merge- Building a survey which cycles through
a block of questions for a specific list or selections from a
previous question.

Publishing and Distributing Surveys
• Click on “Distribute Survey” or “Launch Survey”
• Select “Activate your survey to collect responses”
• Copy and paste the link in an email (Note that the link
can be customized)
• Distribution of surveys to select panels of e-mail
recipients is also possible

View Report Options
• Filters and Subgroups: Filter your report by date, keyword,
subgroup, question response, etc.
• Drill Down: Create a comparative report that divides each
graph and table by the answers to a specific question.
• Reorder Questions: Drag and drop questions to adjust the
order.
• Stylization: Change the color, font, and size of graphs and
tables.
• Share: Publish your report to the web, collaborate with
other users, or schedule report emails to be sent at specific
times.
• Export: Download your report as a Word document,
PowerPoint Presentation, Excel Spreadsheet, or PDF.
