Our History
All his life, Christopher James Greicius
dreamed of becoming a police officer. But
he couldn't know that his wish would be the
inspiration for the largest wish-granting
organization in the world.
1980 – Chris, 7, had his wish to be a police
officer granted in Phoenix, AZ. After Chris’
wish, those involved started Make-A-Wish®.
1983 – International affiliates launched
1993 – Make-A-Wish International was
established

During 2010-2011, Make-A-Wish® America led a study that defined the effects of wishes on
the organizations “community” and, for the first time, provided quantitative measures of
the breadth and depth of the impact of the organization’s mission activities.
The valuable conclusions of the study can be organized into three major areas that the
wish process clearly appears to improve: health status, state of mind and community.

• Founded in 1996 by Gita & Uday Joshi
• Each affiliate works within the framework of stringent international
policies and guidelines and is responsible to raise its own resources
for fulfilling the wishes
• Fulfilled over 28,222 wishes in India till date
• Operates thru 11 offices across India
• Ahmedabad

• Staff of 28 with over 200 volunteers
• Grants almost 3500 wishes / year

The need at Make-A-Wish® India
• Every year there are more than 100,000 children diagnosed with lifethreatening conditions like Cancer, Thalassemia, HIV etc.
• We can grant over 5000 wishes / year, but require funds of almost Rs.
5cr / year to grant them
• Current gap is approx. Rs. 2cr / year
• 2016, we will celebrate our 20th Anniversary and hope to fulfill
40,000th wish
