Vocabulary
• ART: produced or intended primarily for aesthetic purposes
rather than utility-any art form-sculpture-painting-music, or
theater.
• Aesthetic: experiencing art or something for its own beauty
and pleasurable qualities
• Medium: the materials used to create an art work
• Subject: ask the question what is it?
• Elements: line, shape, form, color, value, space texture, the
building blocks the artist use to create an artwork.
• Principles of design: unity, variety, emphasis, rhythm,
movement, balance, pattern, and proportion. The effects that
may result when the elements of art are structured to achieve
successful composition.
