IN MEMORIAM
2012
“Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting;
The soul that rises with us, our life’s star
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar;
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God who is our home.”
From “Ode to Intimations of Immortality”
William Wordsworth -- 1807
“Life is Real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.”
from “Psalm of Life”
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

LITANY
• CHAPLAIN: Father, we thank you now
as we honor the memory of those whom
you gave to us and have taken home.
Look with compassion on those who
grieve. Grant them the assurance of
your eternal goodness, that in them may
be fulfilled the promise that those who
mourn shall be comforted.
• ENTREATY: O God, hear our prayer.
Sunset or Sunrise?
I sat and watched the sun go down,
The red and gold turn ashen gray;
And saw the lights come on in town
That marked the death of another day.
But looking out beyond the strand
Of where our sun and day had gone,
I saw that in another land
The sky was welcoming the dawn.
I saw the night close round our friend;
The empty years with him away;
Then whispered Faith, “Tis not the end,
But just the dawning of another day.”
