 All praise is due to Allah, the Creator of the heavens
and the earth, the Maker of the angels, messengers
flying on wings, two, and three, and four; He
increases in creation what He pleases; surely Allah
has power over all things. [35:1]
Belief in Angels
 It is a pillar of Iman.
 Malak: Angel (Singular)
 Mala’ikah: Angels (Plural)
 Angels are part of the unseen world.
 They are all around us.
What are Angels Made Of?
 Angels are made of light.
 They ‘can’ be visible to us in various forms, including
human form.
 They don’t eat, drink, sleep, get tired or die.
 Yet, they can travel at blazing speeds.
 Angels never commit sins.
What are Angels Made Of?
 They worship Allah and serve him 24/7/354.
 Their appearance is ‘unknown’ to us. They do not
look like babies or women as some people portray
them.
 Jibreel, once filled the entire sky when he appeared
before Prophet Muhammad ‫صلّى اهلل عليه وسلّم‬, but
appeared as a normal-sized man before Maryam.

 “They glorify (Him) by night and day; they never
stop.” [21:20]
 They take care of human beings.
 They execute Allah’s commands around the universe.
 They serve Allah in the hereafter.
Angels and Humans
 Human beings have a relationship with angels from
the time they are born till they die and even after
that.
 This relationship covers all stages of our life.
 They not only guard us from evil but also record all
our deeds.
The Angel of Life
 ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ood narrated: The Messenger of
Allah and he is truthful, the believed, narrated to us:
“Verily the creation of each one of you is brought
together in the mother’s belly for forty days in the
form of a liquid seed, then he is a clot of blood, then
a crumb of flesh, then there is sent to him the angel
who blows the soul into him and who is commanded
about four matters: to write down his wealth, his life
span, his actions, and whether happy or unhappy.”
Reported in Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
The Angel of Life
 The angel of life blows the soul in the fetus in the
womb.
 Every child has the following things recorded before
birth.
 Wealth
 Life span
 Deeds
 Destination; in Paradise or in Hell
 Allah decides our lives and our wealth.
 But we are free to choose our deeds; good or bad.
The Guardian Angels – ‫الحفظة‬
 Allah assigns angels to protect every human being.

of every person.
They protect people against the harms of evil jinn.
Harm may come to a person due to his sins.
It may come as a test of his faith and patience.
It may come to grant him great rewards.

 “When the two writing angels receive man’s actions,
sitting on the right and the left. He utters not a word but
there is by him a watcher at hand.” [50:17-18]
The Record Keepers – ‫الكتبة‬
 Every action and every word of ours will be recorded,
whether good or bad, whether said or done openly or
secretly.
 Whenever we intend to do a good deed, the angel on
the right side immediately records it and we get one
hasanah for it.
 When we really perform the good deed we had
intended, the reward is increased tenfold.
The Record Keepers – ‫الكتبة‬
 When we only think of a bad deed, nothing is
recorded.
 Only when we do that bad deed, it is recorded and we
are charged for just a single bad deed.
 This is a sign of Allah’s profound mercy.
 Abdullah ibn Amr narrated that Rasoolullah ‫صلّى هللا‬
‫ عليه وسلّم‬said: “A single good deed is rewarded ten
folds.”

Angels Support & Defend the Believers
 “O you who believe! Remember the favour of Allah to
you when armies came down upon you, so We sent
against them a strong wind and soldiers, that you
didn’t see, and Allah is All-Seeing.” [33:9]
 Angels support the believers when they need help.
 They fought on the side of Muslims in many battles,
like Badr, Khandaq and Hunayn.
 Allah sent his angels to protect Prophet
Muhammad ‫ صلّى اهلل عليه وسلّم‬during the Hijrah.
The Angel of Death - ‫ملك الموت‬
 He is responsible for taking away the soul from the
human body.
 “Say: The angel of death who is given charge of you
shall cause you to die, then to your Lord you shall be
brought back.” [32:11]
 Death is painful for all, believers and disbelievers.
The Angel of Death - ‫ملك الموت‬
 Death is painful for all, believers and disbelievers.
 But the degree of pain differs.
 The believer’s soul will be taken in an easy and soft
manner, like a drip of water dripping from a glass.
 The disbeliever’s soul will be ripped away in a painful
way.
Angels in the Grave - ‫منكر و نكير‬
 In the grave, two angels of bluish and black colours
come in and awake him/her.
 The soul is returned to the dead person in a special
way.
 Rasoolullah SAW said: “When the dead person is
buried two black-blue angels come to him, one called
Munkar and the other called Nakeer.”
Angels in the Grave - ‫منكر و نكير‬
 The angels will ask the dead person about his Lord,
his Prophet, and his religion.
 The believers will answer confidently and correctly,
therefore, they will enjoy a happy time in the grave.
 The disbelievers will not be able to answer correctly,
thus they will suffer a severe punishment in the
grave.

 “And the horn shall be blown, so all those in the
heavens and in the earth shall pass out, except such
as Allah pleases; then it shall be blown again, then
they shall stand up awaiting.” [Zumar (39):68]
Israfeel, the Blower of the Horn
 Allah will order Israfeel to blow the horn which will
destroy the whole world.
 Some time later, Israfeel will blow the horn again
which will result in the resurrection of all mankind
from death and the Day of Judgment will start.

eight [angels] shall bear on that day your Lord’s
throne. On that day you shall be exposed to view –
no secret of yours shall remain hidden.” [69:17-18]
Carriers of the Throne - ‫حملة العرش‬
 There are eight angels who will carry Allah’s throne
on the Day of Judgment.
 Normally, the Throne is carried by four angels.
 Prophet Muhammad SAW has said: “The distance
between one’s ear and neck is like the distance
travelled over seven hundred years.”
Angels on the Day of Judgment
 The Last Day will be fifty thousand years long.
 People will receive the records of all their deeds; the
good people in their right and the bad people in their
left.
 Angels will then call people by their names for
questioning.
 The believers will experience mild questioning or
none at all and be welcomed by angels into Jannah.
 Disbelievers and sinful Muslims will face a
humiliating treatment and get dragged by angels to
Jahannam.

 There are nineteen angels under Malik.
 They are helped by countless other angels who
oversee punishment of the disbelievers and the
sinful.
Serving Around the Universe
 Angels execute Allah’s command relating to weather.
 They protect the skies from the trespassing of the evil
jinn.
 They inspire the believers to do what is good for
them.
 They attend gatherings where Allah’s name is
mentioned.
 They pray for the rightful believers.

weather.
He moves the clouds and winds according to Allah’s
command.
Meteorologists cannot forecast weather conditions
with complete accuracy.
There have been instances when meteorologists have
been completely wrong.
This is because Allah is the final decision-maker.
Jibreel: The Greatest Angel
 Jibreel ‫ عليه السالم‬is the greatest angel.
 His responsibility is to bring Allah’s revelation to His
messengers.
 He brought the Holy Qur’an to Prophet Muhammad
‫صلّى اهلل عليه وسلّم‬.
