How did exploration of the Americas lead to settlement?

 Two fans (James and Sarah) are watching a football game.  James cheers for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

 Sarah is a fan of the Green Bay Packers.

 James’ team wins, but Sarah’s team loses!

 What might each fan say about the game?

 Describe a situation in which you experienced this.

 Between the 1400s and the 1600s, many Europeans believed that they could claim land in the Americas by being the first to send explorers into an area.  How would you feel if you got to the locker first then someone else came and threw your belongings out and took over the locker?

 When explorers claimed this land, they cared

about the American Indians who already lived there.
