 Minimum Requirements: WAC 246-811-030, an associates
degree in human services or related field from an approved
school, or successful completion of 90 quarter or 60 semester
college credits in courses from an approved school. At least
45 quarter or 30 semester credits must be in courses specific
to alcohol and drug addicted individuals and must include
the topics listed below (a – w)

 Employment of substance abuse and behavioral disorder
counselors is expected to grow by 27 percent from 2010 to 2020,
faster than the average for all occupations. Growth is expected as
more people seek treatment for their addictions or other behaviors
and drug offenders are increasingly sentenced to treatment rather
than jail time.
