Scratching's
 If you are scratched from a school, you will be notified
by the assignor and your assignments will change
accordingly.
 You cannot officiate Games that a family member
works/plays in, this is unethical and may occur in the
assigning process.
 Please correct your assignor if this happens.
 Everyone gets scratched at some point so NEVER take
it personally.
And noooooooo
 WE cannot scratch Coaches!!
Middle Schools and TAPPS
 Dallas ISD has already begun their middle school
program.
 Frisco schools and outer lying northern areas begin
upon completion of high school in April- June.
 TAPPS(Texas Assoc. of Private Parochial Schools)
begins November.

 This can be found on the opening page of Game
officials. Please download it and send it in now in
order to obtain your vendor number.
 If you have moved, you must fill in a change of
address form and resubmit that paperwork or it will
hold up your payment.
 You will need your vendor number for payment for the

Cobb etc)
Dallas ISD Contact
 Silvia Salinas 972 749 2455
 Please allow her at least 4 weeks after you submit your

Garland ISD
 Will still be playing the 4-6-8pm Varsity sessions until
the new fields are laid in 2014/5.
 JV’s will play on alternate nights but with 4-515-630pm
kick offs or Saturday mornings at 8am,
915am,1030am,1145am,1pm,215pm.
 They will be going straight to PK’s to determine a
winner if tied.
Game day preparation
 Start off every Mon- Sat with your referee equipment
in the car, washed and ready to go. You may be called
upon anytime.
 Check your assignments before you head out of the
office, there may have been changes.
 Inclement weather: we ask the coaches to let us know
by 2pm if this is going to impact you
 If this does impact you: your game officials account
will be updated and if time permits we will also be
calling you.
 You will definitely be notified if you are going to start
as a dual system if someone is going to run late and
they have notified the assignor.
 Communication is key, communicate with each other
so you know what's going on i.e. stuck in traffic etc
 Game officials will be updated constantly.
 Head referee for the Varsity game please contact your
AR’s and make sure that you all know each others
numbers. This can be found with the I icon.
 The ① icon in Game officials will let you see this
information/current weather/ map to the field/game
information and the assignors contact details.
At the stadium
 Sign in at the gate or with the paperwork in the
Administrators office.
 Hand in a w-9 at every game every time, it helps
process the checks quicker if they have it.
Who is the administrator on Duty?
 Could be your best friend in the case of a problem
situation.
 Identify them upon arrival and write their name down
and note where they will be seated.
 You need their name in the event of an incident report.
You must meet the players and
coaches in the center of the field
 Confirm that players are legally and properly equipped and
ask about any medical conditions of players i.e. Asthma
and prior injuries you need to know about
 Let the coaches know their paperwork will be left in the
Locker room after the game, this way they are not chasing
after you.
 For a Varsity match, confirm what will happens in the event
of a tie.
 Proceed with your game after the coin toss.
After the game
 Leave the game reports in the locker room.
 Discuss the game with your fellow referees and see
what we can do in order to improve ourselves.
 Don’t discuss the match with anybody who is not part
of our Chapter
 Be mindful that officials locker rooms may be close to
players locker rooms
Dual system vs. 3 man crew
 In some instances we may run a dual until we get the 3rd
referee in for the varsity.
 Many tournaments are requesting 2 referee dual systems in
order to save money.
 Running Late? 10 minutes into the game and you had the
JV middle? You’ve lost it and will now have to run the line.
 Make yourself known to the officiating crew upon your
arrival. Get the 3 man system up as quickly as possible at
the next stoppage in play!
Paperwork
 Start a file
 Keep ALL of your paperwork with you
 Have w-9’s with you and leave at every stadium
 You are normally paid 30-45 days after completion of
your games.
 If you have not been paid 2 months after the game and
have contacted the schools, ask your assignor for help.
DO NOT wait until Nov 1st to ask for help in games
from January…..2010…
However……..if you try this Guess
what….
 An email received on Nov 2, 2012……
 John, I was wondering if you could please find out the
reason why I haven't gotten paid from last year and the
years before that for Crandall High School, And also,
Red Oak High School from almost two years ago.

 Thank you and hopefully I hear back from you soon.
Questions so far??
 Do NOT HESITATE TO STOP US DURIING THIS
PRESENTATION.
 NO MATTER HOW SILLY YOUR QUESTION MAY
SOUND….Chances are someone else is wondering the
same thing!
Weather related issues
Inclement weather
 Carlos and John are your hotlines. We each have our own
districts to look after so please make sure that you contact
the correct Assignor on game days.
 If a School district is shut down for weather and you see
this on the weather channels, we will be playing the match
within the next 48 hours or if on a weekend, probably the
following Monday night.
 If your game is called off midway and is not completed this
is an incident. You need to notify us, chances are you may
be working it the next day…...
General Information
 Contact Crewmates day before game. See the ① icon in game
officials for their contact info.
 Locate school and associated school information under
Locations in Game officials. It is alphabetized to the stadium
name.
 Check game officials before heading out to the stadium.
 Arrive 30 minutes before and fill out paperwork as you walk in
the gate.
 Identify the Administrator on duty.
Referee NO SHOWS
 Don’t panic….Yet!!
 Notify your assignor at halftime in the JV Game.
 Failure to arrive put us all in a Bind, don’t be that
person. Let the assignors know you cant make it, this
is life…. we knows things happen.
 NO TEXTING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We know we cant get hold of you
as you’re on the fields so…..
 Assignors will notify you via voicemail as soon as we
have made adjustments etc or we will try calling the
head coaches of the upcoming games to explain what
we are doing..
 There are repercussions' for people not showing up to
games.
 Once again: PLEASE……NO TEXTING!!!
 If your missing official does show up, let us know
before you end up with a 4 man crew. That means
someone will not get paid…
 Try your best to be on time, arriving at game time is
not being on time!
John/ Carlos…there’s no one
here???
 You arrive for your scheduled game and no one is there?
Team couldn’t get a bus, Game was cancelled and assignors
not notified…etc
 Your assignors have copies of the schedules the coaches
sent in and will make sure that your payment is
forthcoming. Chances are you may be rerouted to another
venue…but you will still get paid for the missing game
 Athletic Directors know this and are making sure it will not
happen
 You will be copied on the email that is sent out the coaches
and administration with a copy of their initial schedules
requesting payment. It will be up to you then to follow up
on payment. They may need a copy of your w-9 to process.
 Once we do this please do not do or say anything in the
email, it is a courtesy to let you know its being dealt with.
 Let the assignor know when this has been paid, we have
other things going on and need your help in finalizing
these issues.
Late Arrivals
 We are there for the players. If the buses are running
late or get caught in traffic, we have to deal with it.
 This doesn’t happen often, so please be professional
and patient (and sorry there is no overtime payment
for the delay)
 DO NOT SHORTEN DISTRICT GAMES for VARSITY
Scrimmages: Dec 27- Jan 7
 Take your paperwork to the scrimmages and a preaddressed
envelope and drop it off in the post when you get home. This
means our Director of Operations can do his job once the
paperwork arrives in order to get you paid. The sooner the
better….no paperwork, he will not know if that game ever took
place.
 All paperwork MUST be turned in by no later than Feb 1
 You may have 1 or 2 or if your lucky even 3 officials this year on
certain scrimmages as per the coaches requests.
 Scrimmage Paperwork will be found at www.tasodallas.org
 Once payment is received by TASO Dallas from the
school/s, your check will be sent out. This normally
happens once a month.
 No Paperwork? We need your paperwork in order to bill
the schools…we know you work hard for it but you also
need to keep us in the loop. What happens if the school did
not show up, will I get paid…yes if its scheduled by us you
will.
 What happens if the coach is not there to sign it or you
forget…..Send it in to us regardless.
 If you receive a check from the school for
scrimmages…how do you handle it?
 1) You shouldn’t be receiving it.
 2) Part of this scrimmage money is set aside for the
assessment program.
 3) Let us know so we can resolve it. Normally you
would exchange checks with Peter Martell.
Non Payment from Schools
 Please keep your own records of payments and if you
have a problem in getting paid its normally something
as simple as a missing w-9.
 Know which assignors to let know about missing
payment after you contacted the schools. We each
have our own districts. The schools will ask for social
security Numbers which we do not have access too.
 We will send you the accounts information that we
have on file.
Contact information for schools
 Your assignors will let you know who to contact: be it
the coach or secretary in case of monetary issues.
 If you get us involved allow us some time to get it
resolved. There will be emails and follow ups which
you will get copied on…..it does take time for people to
check and follow up on. 1 week is pretty much the
norm to get an answer.
 You and the schools are our customers, we need and
want to keep you happy!!
Duration of Games
 Clock is the official time.
 JV’s are all different per district, work with them .
 Do Not shorten a VARSITY DISTRICT match for
any reason
District Play
 Never shorten a District Game for any reason.
 The scorekeeper keeps the “OFFICIAL” clock.
 Consequences of goal differential etc for determining
seeding for playoffs etc.
Travel Pay
 Concentric circles from the center of Dallas going
outward.
 Tournament play, you may be paid in cash from the
Booster clubs.
Cancellations
 We understand why there are cancellations, just please
let us know asap on the day of your games.
 We do play on Holidays like Martin Luther King day.
 Be PROFESSIONAL: Please do not email us or text us
cancellations. Pick up your phone. You will be released
from that assignment once contact is made with your
assignor. Game officials will reflect this and an email
sent out to confirm it through the system.
Feeling sick?
 Call in as soon as humanly possible.
 Be PROFESSIONAL: Please do not email us or text us
cancellations. Pick up your phone. You will be released
from that assignment once contact is made with your
assignor. Game officials will reflect this.
Swapping games
 If you swap out a game the assignor needs to know.
 We don’t recommend it but understand sometimes
that things happen.
 Why? There could be changes to the game and we
need to know who to contact
What is an incident report??
 Coach Send Off: Ask, Tell, Remove….move on.
 Spectator Incident/ Ejection
 Match abandonment for reasons other than Natural
Causes
 A STRAIGHT RED CARD FOR PLAYERS IS AN
INCIDENT
What do I do????
 Contact your assignor immediately after the game who
will notify the Board members
 Email your crew and get your stories straight before
sending to UIL. Our Board would like to read your
version of events prior to sending this in to ensure that
we have done it properly.
Repercussions of an incident report
 Coach has to face his Athletic Director and a maybe a
trip to UIL in Austin.
 Possible suspension.
 Failure by the referee to do this in a timely
manner….also has repercussions.
Its freezing……What can I wear??
Brrrrrr…..
 Cold weather gear.
 Stay healthy.
 Referee shirts over your cold gear please….no yellow
and red gloves….this causes problems for the players
and coaching staff….preferably as much black as
possible.
