•
What is Systems Engineering
• Abstract:
1. A Systems Engineering (SE) approach tailored to
the specific needs of Antarctica … projects is
presented.
2. Special emphasis is put on factors influencing the
availability … and the overall life cycle cost (LCC)
3. Included are strategies to collect information from
existing Antarctica telescope projects

 What is Systems Engineering?
• Systems Engineering (SE) is an interdisciplinary
approach and means to enable the realisation of
successful systems in a most economic way
• SE focuses on defining customer needs and
required functionality early in the development
cycle, documenting requirements,
• SE then proceeds with design synthesis and
system validation while considering the complete
problem.

 What is Systems Engineering?
From a practical point of view1:
a) the understanding of the whole system and
seeing the big picture
b) closed loop thinking
c) understanding of the systems synergy
d) understanding the system from multiple
perspective
e) understanding and controlling the system
from the interception to the disposal
