Development status

Payload and AIV organisation

Mr. Etienne Dutruel (Huygens) has joined the Payload and AIV Group, Rosetta Project. He will reinforce the support in the areas of payload deliveries and related AIV activities.

Resources

The resource budgets are in general stable.

Bearing in mind that most of the experiments have gone through their design qualification, the current margins of a few percent are judged adequate to cope with FM production uncertainties.

The STM Programme

• The Rosetta spacecraft AIV programme has been completed on time and with very encouraging results.

• The mechanical tests have confirmed for most units lower levels than currently anticipated.

• Sine and random levels have been updated accordingly by J-C. Salvignol ref. doc.: TOS-MCS/2000/47/ln, rev. 2, dated 13.04.2000.

• The shock levels measured during the S/C “Shogun” test were also lower than specified by Arianespace.

• Updated specification is pending formal agreement (7 June 2000) with Arianespace based on a “3000 g max.” Qual. input at S/C interface.

The STM Programme

• Thermal results are under evaluation.

• No major problems found, however, the overall spacecraft is on an average, a few °C too warm / too cold with respect to temperatures predicted.

• Payload results in preliminary form will be available by mid June (Ph. Poinas presentation).

• Local trimming if necessary will be addressed by ESA Project/PIs.

The STM Programme

• The conclusions one can draw from this programme are: – Industrial consortium is very competent and has the willingness and manpower to recover critical situations.

– The test results have demonstrated the feasibility of the Rosetta S/C and its payload in terms of mechanical and thermal design.

– Several NCRs still need to be formally closed, some having impact on FM design. (Payload Eng. to deal with) 08/06/2000 PR-3281-CB 8

The STM Programme

• The STM experiments will be returned to the PIs including the experiment thermal blankets. These can be used as “template” for the FM production.

Harness will only be returned on specific request (RPC). • The STM programme could be concluded so successfully thanks to the collaboration from all of you.

Definitely something to carry over to the EQM programme.

• ESA/DSS request MIRO, ROSINA and GIADA to remain at Alenia until mid June to calibrate the shock table. Agreement to be reached between PIs and P/L engineers.

The EQM Programme

• The Rosetta EQM programme has started mid April 2000 at ALS, Torino.

• The integration of harness, power supply and on board data handling is progressing with some difficulties inherent to “first time activities”.

• First experiments (ALICE, MIRO, CONSERT) have been delivered and gone through incoming inspection at ALS.

The EQM Programme

• The remaining experiments shall be delivered as agreed in the timeframe June to end July 2000.

• Prerequisite for delivery: satisfactory ADP, RSDB and functional testing.

• The Payload integration activities will start on 12 July and will be completed on 23rd August 2000.

• The proposed integration sequence follows in principle the order of experiment deliveries.

• The planning concept foresees to integrate “two experiments” a week, with Saturdays reserved as contingency.

TRR: Test Readiness Review

• Goal: give a green light to start testing by – Checking configuration of instrument H/W and S/W.

– Checking configuration of EGSE / MGSE.

– Checking support documentation (procedure, test sequence).

• Held by ALS / ESA / PI.

Test organisation

• A PI representative presence in Alenia is mandatory to: – Follow the test through.

– Act on problems.

– Declare go / no go criteria and produce concise report online for post test review.

TCR: Test Completion Review

• Alenia post test summary.

• Raise NCR, Actions.

• Declare open work.

• Sign-off for test summary report.

• Conclusion TRR and TCR are mandatory to control testing activities.

Experiment Final Design Review

Objectives

The purpose of the Experiment Final Design Review (EFDR) is – To confirm that the interface requirements are well defined and correspond to the PI/ESA/DSS agreed baseline.

– To verify that the design qualification and verification performed lead to the formal qualification/acceptance of the experiment for flight.

– To demonstrate a credible schedule for FM/PFM delivery with respect to the AIV need date (March-April 2001).

– To resolve open issues or to agree on clear course of action.

Experiment Final Design Review

Schedule

– The EFDR will take place at the PI premises or another convenient location (tbc).

– The review will be very concise limited to a one day meeting.

– The ESA participation will include Payload Manager and Engineers with technical support as felt necessary. ESOC, DSS and ALS will participate with one person dedicated to payload interfaces.

– The EFDR timeframe is fixed to the 4 th quarter of 2000 (September-November 2000). The exact sequence of EFDRs will be established together with the PI’s.

Experiment Final Design Review

Data Package

ESA does not request a specific EFDR data package.

However, it is imperative that the following prerequisites are fulfilled and made available to the project two weeks before the review date.

– List of interface open issues.

– Analytical model status.

– List of qualification reports and corresponding NCRs.

– Design verification plan and compliance matrix.

– Summary of qualification status, incl. mechanism.

– red marked EID-B, and User’s Manual.

– Up to date FM/PFM schedule.

Summary

• The STM programme has been very conclusive and valuable information has been gained for use as feedback in the consolidation of the QM/PFM design.

• Thermal results are under assessment but no major issued have been found. Review with Experimenters expected second part of June 2000.

• STM structure is under refurbishment, Payload structure will be available begin July as planned.

• EQM programme has started mid April 2000, but is very time constrained by start of FM programme begin of March 2001.

Summary

• Experimenters shall keep currently agreed EM/EQM delivery dates.

• Experimenter’s support during integration and ISTs at ALS Torino is mandatory.

• The EFDR is based on a one day meeting and minimum data package shall not interfere with FM production.

• The FM experiment production and calibration shall be given highest priority and manpower.

PI is responsible to meet need date to ESA (March-April 2000).

ONLY 10 months remaining till the “End of FM delivery slot in April 2001”
