H&S: A two-sided issue
Works Council Bremen
Health & Safety in the coal and steel industry faces two core,
but very different problems:
1. Work in the steel industry and in mines has still a high
lethal potential
 safe work, well back home
2. Due to high mental and physical exposures working in the
steel industry leads to a premature physical decline and
lost of workability
 healthy working, to retire fit

Conclusions
Works Council Bremen
A substantial progress can only be achieved if some
Preconditions have been met:
1. A real Participation of Employees and their
Representatives by the Management
2. A real Involvement of all Employees within the
H&S-System
3. Shared Responsibility between Employee Representatives
and Employers
