 Non-commercial partnership - Guild of Periodical Press
Publishers (GIPP) - was founded in September 1998 by a group
of publishing houses.
 GIPP’s mission is to protect and lobby the interests of
publishers, to promote the industry’s development into a
competitive, investment attractive business with professional
management, high editorial standards and economic
independence of all market players – all of the above being
essential conditions for political independence and guarantees
of press freedom in Russia.
 GIPP’s main goal is to create favorable conditions for the
development of the publishing business in Russia.

In Russia
GIPP represents print media in government contacts
In April 2007 GIPP initiated the foundation of the National
Coordination Union of the Press, which now unites
11 industry associations (publishers, distributors, printers,
newsprint developers).
GIPP represents print media in the Russian Council of
Media Industry Associations (SAMI), has partner relations
with other Russian industry associations of the press and
book publishers, distributors, printers, newsprint developers,
etc.

GIPP’s members
 As of the March, 2007 GIPP had more then 380 members,
including 260 regional companies and regional association of
the Saint-Petersburg publishers. In 2006 GIPP was joined by
100 new members (more 70 regional).
 GIPP’s members publish over 2500 printed titles, including
leading daily and weekly newspapers, consumer, business,
entertainment and specialized magazines.
 Most GIPP members are leaders in their respective market
segments.
 Publications of GIPP members account for nearly 80% of print
market of Russia in circulation, advertising and readership.

Goal – to achieve market transparency, to create a system for collection,
processing and publishing of statistical information on actual participants of
the Russian printed media market, increase the attractiveness of the
industry for advertisers and investors, to attract attention to regional press

Aim – establishment of a civilized press distribution market: free access to
free press through compliance with industry conduct rules, order and
transparency, cooperation of publishers and distributors in achieving the
common goal – to satisfy the society’s demand for press

Improvement of the System of Professional Training and
Qualification Development for Creative and Managerial
Printed Media Specialists
Objectives:
 Elaboration of a list of industry professions and specializations for printed
media for the updatable state register
 Elaboration of categorized industry professional requirements (skills,
knowledge, abilities)
 Current, mid-term and long-term demand forecasts for industry specialists
 Establishment of mechanisms of collaboration between the industry and
educational institutions: field training, employment, attestation and program
certification
 Elaboration of basic training programs for different categories of
specialists, qualification development training for educators, preparation of
professional case studies and educational literature
 Establishment of qualification development centers

Readership
Aim – to considerably expand the readership of Russian press: to improve
its status as a source of socially significant educational information

Hosted by the Guild of Periodical Press Publishers with support of
the Federal Agency for Print Media and Mass Communications
The Congress in Moscow was labeled the most successful in the
history of WAN’s congresses by participants.
Gavil O’Reily, WAN’s President, at the Congress opening ceremony in the
Kremlin: The existence of GIPP – a strong and active organization,
representing Russia’s printed press – without doubt became the key factor in
our decision to hold the Congress and Forum in Russia. Without GIPP we
wouldn’t even consider Moscow as an alternative.
