Overview

California law = all 9th grade students pass physical tests









Body composition
Flexibility
Cardiovascular/aerobic
Abdominal strength (core)
Upper body strength (arms, shoulders, chest, back)
Back strength and flexibility (core)
5 of 6 passing category scores required
Earn 2-year PE exemption (no req’d PE as Jr./Sr.)
All class of 2012 participates in testing

FTHS PE classes, ISPE, BHS/VHS athletes
Overview

Pre-testing this fall with Mrs. Stevens/Mr. Huffman/self

Formal testing this spring with Mrs. Stevens/Mr. Huffman


Once passed 5 of 6, you have met requirement for state

Complete 2nd year of VUSD PE requirement  done
If you don’t pass by spring of sophomore year…

Add two more years of PE to schedule

Must be ON CAMPUS

In addition to any sport you plan to participate in

Replaces 2 elective options in schedule junior/senior year
What Does This Mean? Part I

Instead of having time for an elective such as:
Web Design
Spanish
Art III or IV
More years of Speech or Drama
Or any other elective…



Schedule includes P.E. as junior and senior
Translates into 4 years of P.E. required







Must be ON CAMPUS FTHS class
In addition to any sport you plan to participate in

Good for teacher job security!
Bad for completing A-G requirements (school-wide AVID
goal) and electives
May interfere with BioScience academy
May interfere with athletics/music

What is the Plan for Success?

Mrs. Stevens, Mr. Huffman, Mrs. Faulconer, and Mrs. Carr are
working together to support you…

Mrs. Stevens will help to prepare you for the physical tests (and
conducts testing)

Athletes and ISPE students will make appointments with Mrs. Stevens
for testing during FIRE (refer to scheduled dates)


Athletes and ISPE students can self pre-test in many categories
Mrs. Faulconer and Mrs. Carr will be helping you set up your
FitnessGram tracking charts in Education in the Digital Age class
and giving you class time to track your progress during the first
quarter
What Else Do I Need to Know?



Mrs. Stevens will be conducting spring tests
for all students, INCLUDING all athletes and
Independent Study P.E. students.
Athletes and ISPE students need to make
charts and track progress along with all other
regularly enrolled P.E. students.
