Difficulties of SQ
Finding out details of airport management structure
Conflict of interest between regional development
and airport development (what is good for the
region not necessarily good for the airport)
Relationship between datasets (and justification): no
explanation in methodology why do we look for
certain data and what are the relationships?
Difficulties of SQ
How to get information on investments in the
region?
Proposal to extend the SQ with big infrastructure
overview (and impact): networks between airports
and between airports and region(s)
Catchment area definition: more realistic if
considered space-time than just spatial distance
Difficulties of SQ
Include an overall regional vision into the SQ
analysis
Show (and analyse) stakeholder expectations
Analyse sectoral trends (longer term), make
estimations and predictions of changes (%). Look at
historic data and extrapolate (scenarios?):
passengers, cargo, tourism, economy (also
population)
Difficulties of SQ
Visualize information: use graphics, map locations
and connections
Provide a view on the investment pipeline:
Projects operating
Projects under construction
Projects planned
permits
zoning plans
What do we aim for?
1. Analyse (compare) and disseminate information
2. Evaluate and comment (strenghts, weaknesses):
Create input for development plan
3. Airport masterplan: does it follow
municpal/regional plans, or it is in conflict?
4. General image and vision
Current and future
What do we aim for?
Understand the links between:
- airport economy
- airport region economy
Who needs the airport, who benefits from the
airport and how can airport development
strengthen the development of the regional
economy?
Good location
Human resources (educated people)
Good investment climate
Transport system (train+bus+metro)
Accessibility on all levels (macro, mezo, micro)
Good marketing
Effective planning
Mixture of urban functions
Hotel system
Cooperation leader
Financing
High density population in catchment area
Business Park
Culture aspect
Flagship project
Services (like car rental, etc.)
Competitiveness
Intermodality
Passenger traffic more than 5 mln/yr
Cargo capacity
GDP
Public lands
Shopping Centres
Economy and Investments
Compatibility of airport master plan with local, regional and national planning
General vision
Activities should be realistic according to location and land use
Financially viable (realistic) activities
Step by step development (from general to detail)
Be prepared for external effects (plan A optimistic, plan B pessimistic)
Activities should be realistic according to legal regulations
Public consultations as a support
Your proposal 1… 2… 3… Complexity
Prepared for possible conflits (objectives, interests, activities)
