Organize
• When Picasa is started, it will scan your
system, and automatically organize your
photo and movie files into a collection of
folders inside the Library View.
• Photo file types selected: JPG, GIF, TIF,
PSD, PNG, BMP, RAW (including NEF and
CRW), GIF, and PNG.
• Movie file types selected: MPG, AVI, ASF,
WMV, and MOV.

Folder List – (left side) folders on your
computer containing photos, and all
albums created by Picasa.
•
Photo Tray – (bottom) collects photos
&/or movies to be managed as a group.
•
Light Box – right side shows thumbnails
of photos in folders.

Folder List
Folder List operations:
– Select folders to scan - Tools>Folder Manager,
& select folders
– Move photos between folders - Click/Hold/Drag
between folders
– Edit folder description - Dbl-click on folder
name, enter or change description
– Delete photo from folder – Select photo,
File>Delete from Disk (deletes photo from HD)
Organize - Albums
Album operations:
– Create Album - highlight photo, File>New
Album, in Name window: type name
– Add photo(s) to Album - Rt-Click photo>Add to
Album>select album title
– Edit Album description - Dbl-click on Album title,
enter or change description
– Delete photo from Album – Rt-Click
photo>Remove from Album (does not delete
from Disk)
– Rearrange photos – Click/Drag between or
within Album(s)
Organize - Albums
Important:
• When adding or deleting a photo to/from an
album, or moving the photo between
albums, the photo is still in the original
folder
• When moving or deleting a photo to/from a
folder, the photo is no longer in the original
folder
• To organize and arrange your photos, you
should use albums not folders
Organize - Library Tools
– Import - Click on import button (below menu
bar at top), select import device
– Slide Show - Select folder or Album,
View>Slideshow will show photos. To make
player controls appear, move mouse or hit
spacebar
– Timeline – View>Timeline Another way to
view photos
– Search – A search window in the upper righthand area will allow you to search to find
photos by typing identifying information.
Organize - Library Tools (cont.)
– Create Gift CD – By clicking on this button
___ above the photos, you will open the
“Create Gift CD” window.
– You can add folders or albums by clicking on
the Add More button, and check marking the
folders or albums you want to include on the
CD.
– All photos in the folders or albums selected
will be written on the CD when you click the
Burn Disc button.
– You can include the Slideshow program
and/or Picasa by check marking the
appropriate boxes
Edit
• Picasa has simplified photo editing tools to
improve your photos
– In the Library View, dbl-clk on a thumbnail to
open the Edit Photo screen.
– On the left of the photo, there are three tabs
of photo editing tools

• Effects
Edit Basic Fixes
– Crop - Click on shape on left, adjust position
and size of area, and click on apply
– Straighten - Move slider at bottom until photo
is straight, and click on apply
– Redeye Automatically removes redeye. Can
also draw square around eye needing repair,
and click on apply
– I’m Feeling Lucky - Automatically adjusts color
and contrast, and click apply if satisfied
– Auto Contrast/Color Automatically adjusts
contrast/color, and click apply if satisfied
Edit Basic Fixes (cont.)
– Retouch - Select a blemished area of photo
(adjust area size with brush size slider) click
once, move to another area of photo, click
again to remove blemish (called cloning in
other photo programs)
– Text - Text can be added to photo. Click once
to position text, type text wanted. Adjust
style, font size, alignment, and color. Click
apply when done.
– Fill Light - Adjust light in photo
Edit Tuning
– Fill Light slider - Adds light to the foreground of
photos with too bright backgrounds
– Highlights slider - Adds to or reduces the brightness
spots, or highlights, in your photo
– Shadows slider - Adds more shadows to your photo
– Color Temperature slider - Makes your photo
warmer (to the right) or cooler (to the left).
– Neutral Color Picker - Use the “Pick Color” dropper
to tell Picasa which part of your photo it should
consider as gray or white. Picasa will color balance the
colors surrounding that selection according to the
selected color.
Edit Effects
• Effects tab - Contains twelve effects that
you can apply to any still photo. Effects
are added in progressive layers, and you
can always undo or redo the last effect
you made at any time.
