You say we pay!

Just a minute!

Turn to your partner In turns explain what have you learnt about the Romans in the last 2 lessons Try to explain for 60 seconds without, pausing, repeating information or stalling.

What did the Romans do for us?

Presentations

• In groups of 3 you are going to be given a legacy of Rome on Britain • You will have important 8 minutes to prepare a speech to the class about why it was so • You must also act out the legacy to show us how it is used to this day!

• I will be filming some of these • Prizes will be given to the group who has persuaded us the most!

• You MUST be mature during this

Success Criteria

You have to: • Explain what the Roman legacy is • Persuade us why it was so important • Act out what the Romans left and how it is used today • Use language to persuade us that your legacy is the most important so you can win the sweets!

• It must be no more than 2 minutes long

Mastermind

I need one volunteer to come to the front of the class as the mastermind They will be answering questions from the class about the legacy of the Romans asked by the class

You have all been given a random card, each has a question and answer on it • As a class we are going to answer these • One person will ask a question, if you have the answer put your hand up • After answering, ask your question and then someone else will answer it • The questions will go around until we get the original person!

Speed Dating

• Turn your chairs to face your partner, number yourselves 1 or 2 • When I put up a topic on the board you will begin • Number 1 will have 60 seconds to say all they can about the topic • Number 2 will listen carefully and then they will go for 60 seconds arguing against it • If a person stumbles or gives up, you win!

Speed Dating Part 2

• Now, number 1’s you need to now go and swap places with another number 1 • Now you are facing a brand new ‘date’ • You will now need to repeat the activity from the first section • Number 1 will have 60 seconds to say all they can about the topic • Number 2 will listen carefully and then they will go for 60 seconds arguing against it

Hot Seat

One person will sit with their back to the board and key words to do with the American in the 1920s with come up The person can only ask questions and the class CANNOT use the word You have to describe them so they can work out the answer!

Verbal Tennis

• Turn your chairs to face your partner • When I put up a topic on the board you will begin • One person has to say a key word or word related to the topic • Then the partner has to give one as quick as they can • If a person stumbles or does not know, you win!

Card Sort Activity

Step One:

• Spread out the cards on your desk • • As a group discuss each of the cards Sort the cards into two piles 1.

The only way to settle this is with a FIGHT!!!

• In teams you will be preparing a debate on either side of the argument about what life was like for immigrants in America • You will compete against each other in 3 x 1 minute rounds to argue your points . You will have time to prepare in-between each round • You must back up your points with clear examples

• • • In your groups you need to work together to prepare your arguments Use your books and the card sort to pick out your strongest arguments You cannot write anything down , so you need to discuss with your group what you will say

• You now need to decide who will speak for each of your rounds: • There are 3 rounds and the last is the most important • Each person has to have a different point they will argue
