Financing

 Financing Alternatives to get more projects through the production pipeline  GAS TAX is not sustainable. We must diversity our sources of revenue  Tolling a policy that all new capacity on interstates and expressways shall be tolled where feasible or at the very least tolls should complement traditional funding in delivering improvements and new capacity

Florida’s Future

 Continue to move toward 100% transponder (SUNPASS) use  Back room consolidation  Interoperability

19

A Few Observations Toward the Future

 States collectively spend about $10 billion in federal funds each year on the Interstate System  The current annual shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund is about $10 billion  A toll of about 2¢ per mile for cars and 4¢ per mile for trucks for travel on the Interstate System would generate about $16 billion annually  The toll from Jacksonville, FL to Pittsburg, PA would be about $16 for cars and $32 for trucks – a trip to Seattle, WA would be about $60 for cars and $120 for trucks  So . . . should the future preservation and capacity needs of the Interstate System be funded through tolls?
