Present Status of LT Energy Metering in Domestic
• To measure energy various Utilities still uses Electro
mechanical meters and low cost digital meters with
accuracy class is 1.0 above.
• Line loss rate is estimated to be much beyond 20% due to
tampering.
• Readings of the meter is done manually that leads to
obvious error and wastage of time and resource.
• It is difficult to make exact load consumption analysis.
Issues with Other Communication Network
• Highly depends on other mobile network.
• Accessibility of Mobile network in remote areas is not
available.
• In many cases manual reading is also not feasible.
• Billing cycle requires excessive time.
• System Maintenance is very expensive.
Critical Benefits from PLCC Communication
• Most economically viable technology for transferring
Meter Data to DCU.
• Using this technique of communication the data can be
transferred over the existing LT Power lines.
• Narrow Band Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Power
Line Carrier Communications Technology.
• Encryption is provided for, to ensure the data accuracy,
integrity and security.

Overview of the PLCC – AMR System
MRC: Meter reading front-end computer
PSC: Power selling front-end computer
BCS: Base computer station
POS: Point of sale
MSC: Management system front-end computer
CRM: Card reader/writer
DCU: Data concentrator unit
Primary Components
• 1 phase and 3 phase Direct Connected / CT operated
Multi-function Energy Meter with in-built PLCC Modem.
• Data Concentrator Unit (DCU) with inbuilt PLCC Modem
for communication with Meters & GSM /GPRS/ PSTN
Modem communicating with the central station.
• Base Computer software (BCS) installed at Master
Station Server with GSM/GPRS/ PSTN Modem.
Advantages of PLCC - AMR
• Remotely Connect / Disconnection of Power supply
through PLCC Meter
• Ability to detect tamper events and outage occurrences
• Monitor electrical load in real time.
• System has no running cost for data acquisition.
• Reduction in manual meter reading costs.
Contd ….
Advantages Contd….
• Reduction in late and estimated billing costs.
• Improved meter accuracy & Reduced meter
maintenance expenses.
• Reduction in Revenue Protection losses
• Pre-Paid Metering can be done remotely, without
requiring local smart card / Swipe Card.
• Power Quality, Outage Management and Reliability
Improvement.
