2000 IACC Sweep Summary

Developed plan for refresh of ITS Labs; helped initiate campus plan based on inventory of student access labs.

Improved network infrastructure and environmental aspects of several labs

Maintain current listing of ITS labs with hours,resources and status.

Partnered with CLA, CAED to refresh labs and address discipline specific and campus wide issues

2000 Deans Sweep Summary

– Partnered with CAED to refresh Arch Lab with full campus access – Partnered with CLA on lab refresh -21” monitors, 933mhz/256/30GB – Re-opened Science North Lab for self-instruction use >100 hrs/week IACC-ITS.PPT

User Survey Metrics-Students

TOP SIX responses were: #6 Faster Connectivity –

Computer labs sped up connectivity by installing 4 new Cisco network switches, upgraded 2 others. Two lab direct fiber optic connections to the campus backbone.

#5 More PC’s –

More space to put them in is greatly needed.

#4 More Open Access Time

– Extended library lab hours & new lab in Architecture.

#3 Color Printer Access –

Color Laser in 05-308 and inkjet in 20-126

#2 More Computers –

mostly in the library, additional space is needed.

#1 All Night Hours –

extended hours until 2am in the library, metrics reveal that 310 people signed between 1am and 2 am since January 8 th .

Benefits Derived in FY 00/01

    Students have more access to more current systems than at this time last year Faculty can make use current software releases on more capable hardware platforms Lab users in PE, CAD Lab, Java Projects Lab and Library experience better network performance Systems are managed more efficiently due to improved network infrastructure. Users experience fewer “broken” PCs’, due to faster, more efficient re-imaging.
