Workload

Total Workload = standard minimum teaching load + additional workload equivalency activities • Total Workload not to exceed 15(16) contact hours (8 ch) 1.

Professional Development

• Required for IAS to stay current in his/her discipline • May also be required for individual &/or department certification or accreditation • Include workshops, conferences, literature reviews, etc.

Research

• Any creative endeavor that results in original contribution’s to one’s discipline, is reviewed by one’s peers and whose results are widely published.

Service

• Refers to departmental, college and/or university service • University committee requests due in March for following academic year – See Faculty Senate bylaws for full list of committees & description ( http://www.uwlax.edu/FacultySenate )

Career Progression:

General Policies

• Accrue semesters – % appt. disregarded – Summer & J-Term not counted • Years at other institutions negotiated with Dean at time of initial appointment • After 4 semesters away from UW-L - lose YOS • Must be at UW-L immediately prior to CP application • CP based on accomplishments - not YOS • $1,000 salary ‘bump’ with CP approval • See full policy for excluded titles

Career Progression:

Criteria

Example: Assoc. Lecturer to Lecturer OR Clinical Instructor to Clinical Asst Professor • Minimum Teaching Experience: – 8 semesters full-time or equivalent AND – 2 semesters of which must be at UW-L • Documentation of Effective Teaching: – Self Assessment, Peer Reviews, Chair Evaluation, SEI Scores, Other Teaching Assessment • Additional Accomplishments (Evidence of Prof. Dev. &/or service such as) : – Undergraduate Advising; Lab Scheduling; Curriculum Development; Outreach Program Participation; Workshop Attendance; In Service Training; Committee Work; Mentoring Participation; etc.

Career Progression:

Deadlines

• First Friday of January - CP Packet due to Faculty Senate Office • First Friday of February - IASCPC recommendations due to Provost Office • Within 14 days of receiving IASCPC recommendations Provost recommendations due to HR • Within 7 days of receiving Provost decisions - HR issues notification letters to all IAS applicants • July 1 of Next Academic Year - New Title takes Effect

IAS Appeals Process

• Formal appeals process to be in place by December 30, 2007 – Will address issues of CP, workload, etc.

• Until then - contact a member of the IAS Committee

Contracts

• Most IAS have 1-year fixed-term terminal contracts (August 27, 2007 - May 25, 2008) • Deans have discretion in recommending multi-year contracts, first considering – Long-term programmatic needs – IAS individuals in higher titles • IAS Committee will be addressing the issue of Contracts during 2007-8 AY
