 Established in 1983 to assist companies affected by out-of-state
competition
 Funded by a dedicated tax; NO General Funds used
 Performance-based
 800,000 CA employees trained in 78,000 businesses

Trainee Eligibility
 Regular, full-time employment (35 hrs. / week)
 ETP minimum wage: $15.88 / hour for OC; $16.00 / hour for LA.
May include medical, dental, vision benefits
 Complete the training; stay on the job for 90 days
 Training hours may range from 8-60 (small company)

What ETP Staff Wants You to Consider
 Assess your employees; know what training they need to fill
their skills gap
 Some topics not funded: sexual harassment, labor laws, stress
mgt., workplace violence, hiring/firing/discipline, general
safety, keyboarding. No CEUs
 Consider the financial costs to hold an ETP agreement / number
of trainees
What ETP Staff Want You to Consider
 Know the trainee wages and benefits
 Know the company turnover rate

 Get buy-in from top management. Have them designate
someone to manage the ETP agreement. Have them give
permission for supervisors to release employees for training.
