What is Hazardous?

• PA Hazardous Substance List (HSL) has 2,333 regulated substances – Hazardous – Special Hazardous Substances – Environmental Hazards • Chemical Abstract List -- Online HSSF

What is Exempt?

• Articles • Consumer/Retail Products – packaged, used, stored same as in the consumer home • Personal Consumption Products • Foods, drugs, cosmetics

What is Exempt?

• Tobacco and tobacco products • Research & Development Areas – certain provisions apply – Teaching and testing activities – Technically qualified person – MSDSs must be made available to employees in R&D areas

Hazardous Substance Survey Form - HSSF

• List of all hazardous, special and environmental hazards in the workplace with identifying CAS Numbers • Must be updated annually by April 1 • Must be posted in the workplace • Cannot complete without MSDSs for products in the workplace – cross reference to PA HSL

Material Safety Data Sheet

• Documents prepared by chemical manufacturers, suppliers, distributors • Used to determine if a product is regulated (contains substance on PA list) and should be listed on the HSSF

– Physical Hazards – Health Hazards – Routes of Exposure – Precautions for safe handling and use – Emergency and First Aid procedures
