bringing IT standards to the maritime
 end-to-end managed service
NOT ship-to-shore
BUT ship-to-HQ
 no internet but private network, allowing QOS
 no ‘best effort’ service, but SLA (including site
availability) with penalties

Belgium is a small country
– Antwerpen: 2nd harbour in Europe
world nbr 2 chemical cluster: Europe’s nbr 1 in liquid bulk
main European steel port
worlds largest fruit port
main European forrest product
worlds largest coffee import harbour
main European port for Special Cargo
}
Europe’s nbr 1
in dry bulk

LAN setup without additional hardware
the Orange approach allows the creation of three different
LANs on board without having to install additional hardware
to have a clear seperation between:
•
business/vessel operations
– ECDIS applications, ERP, port authorities exchange, etc.
•
crew use
– Internet browsing, email, etc.
•
vessel systems
– monitoring of exhausts, engine performance, etc.
real-time transmission
•
•
•
•
piloting from main offices several wells
simultaneously: difficult access to the
site: e.g. arctic pole, offshore, difficult
environment
minimizes the need for expert on board
vessel just another office as any
terrestrial site
M2M
– frac tanks
– large high value assets and rental
equipment
– ISO tanks
– pipelines
– containers
Current At Sea: ECDIS, VDS and VSAT combined
• ECDIS ‘Electronic Chart Display and Information System’ is
a mandatory system that combines chart management
and voyage planning that has to be outrolled by 2018.
Our proposed solution allows paperfree sailing.
• Our partner Maris combines this with electronic updates
and digital information of chart updates, other
navigational sources and port communication.
• The Voyage Decision System from Maris integrates this
with automatic chart updates and wheater and water
current forecasts in one single system. This VDS can
realise 4 to 8% fuel (on average 9000 USD DAILY with the
current fuelprices).
Crew welfare:
soft values represent hard money
• recruitment cost (direct + indirect)
• training cost
• …
The lower the crew retention rate,
for sure:
the higher the cost
assumption:
the lower the performance
the higher the operational risks
the higher the chance for incidents

Combine the advantages of a CCTV
system (for both crime prevention and
personal safety) with on-shore
monitoring and remote storage of the
footage.
As we don’t have a Fair Use Policy in
place, you don’t have to worry about
the size of the data transfer: unlimited
use is unlimited use.
GSM onboard
• allows the crew to do private
phone calls with their own
cell phones in the privacy of
their own cabins
• no hardware investment (for
vessels with 20+ crew)
• no admin with pre-paid
cards
• no impact on the corporate
bandwith usage
Thank you!
