Development Centre
The Development Centre (children aged 4-6 years of age) is the life-blood of the club.
Ensuring we have the right coaching structure for the Development Centre is crucial for
the long-term development of the children and protects the long-term future of the club.
The Development Centre Performs three key functions:
1) To provide a safe, happy inclusive environment for children beginning their football
journey
2) To provide a consistent coaching and development structure for all our very young
children in accordance with the FA Long-Term Player Development Four Corner model
3) To help recruit, train and mentor parents of U5/Reception Children who are passionate
about youth Development and who wish to start coaching their own team from
U6/Year 1 onwards

and Playing Matches
On page 117 THE RULES OF THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION LIMITED, it states;
Children Under 6 Years Old
A child who has not attained nor will have attained the age of six as at midnight on 31st August in
a playing season shall not play, and shall not be permitted or encouraged to play, in a match of
any kind in that playing season.
What IS supported/acceptable;
• Two or more clubs to participate in small sided games (no more than 4 v 4)
• Games must NOT be managed like a formal match.
• Games MUST emphasize basic skill development, NOT on match scores, positional play or any
other concepts inappropriate for very young children
• If goals are to be used, ensure small goals are used, no keepers
• Children from the different clubs should play in mixed teams and wear bibs rather than in full
club kits
• Coaches agree to help all players on the pitch and not just their own
This changes the emphasis from a formal match with winners and losers, to a training game here
the emphasis is on learning through play
