6. Future Perspective.
1. Establishment of the Lab
 Started in June 1996 (Head of Dept. : Prof.
A. N Chandorkar).
 TI agreed to provide DSP specific hardware and
software support
 Support for laboratory infrastructure came
from institute funds and other sponsored
projects.
Aim
 Teaching DSP on TMS processors together
with theory course on DSP.
 Major research and development effort
using DSPs in current areas of Wireless
Communications, Image Processing
Networking,Embedded systems,Systems
&Control.
• Training programs for industries.
• Taking up industrial,application specific
projects.
• Consultancy .
 Platform for Industry – Institute Interactions
2. Development Activities
1996
• Laboratory development.
• Basic DSP experiments.
•
Mini – Projects.
1997
• Complete set of basic experiments were executed.
• Some students started on their major projects like
MPEG-I Audio Encoder / Decoder etc. using TI DSPs.
• Laboratory course, supplementing lectures were tried
out on graduate and senior under-graduate students.
• CEP course for industry on advanced topics in DSP.
 1998
• Third prize at national level TI-DSP challenge
contest won by a group of IITB students.
• TI provided some personal computers.
• TI supported course for faculty from VJTI was
organized.
• IEEE(Mumbai section)-DSP workshop .
• TI supported CEP course on Wavelets for industry.
• Compulsory DSP lab. Course introduced for 4th year
dual-degree students.
• In house CEP course at Duettech Delhi (Noida)
related to VLSI and DSP was organized (VMG, ANC,
DKS).
• CEP course on Wavelets for industry.
 On other occasions, courses for faculty/Employees of
other institutes were organized.
Also every year students from other IITs/are invited for
their summer project in DSP and related fields of
communication.
 If possible, we have also supported students from
other nearby colleges for their final year projects.
Students from engineering colleges are invited to
study DSP and carry out short term projects.
