Achievements of the completed LTAP projects include the development and, in most cases, the
implementation of the following:

Communication Arts multidisciplinary 4th year program (P7125, Shumack)

Learning Guide materials for four Law units -Property Law; Equity Trusts and Remedies 2;
Intellectual Property and Company Law . One of the Learning Guides features embedded
podcasts presented on vUWS. (P7121, Ireland)
Reported Achievements: Flexible and Blended Learning
•
Course hubsite for Bachelor of Business (Management) students, incorporating blended learning
and assessment concepts. The course hubsite framework will be utilised for the new Bachelor of
Business and Commerce and other similar hubsites are also beginning to appear across the
College of Business. (P6112, Cornish)
•
A “virtual” translation agency for the Translation Project component of students’ Translation
program Practicum, giving students experience with the operations of a translation agency.
(P6121, Garcia)
•
Re-designed curriculum for the postgraduate course 20311 E-Learning Support PG and the
updating of all WebCT (now vUWS) sites thus ensuring consistent and professional designs
across the course. (P6113, Griffin)
•
Web-based training in e-moderation for Academic staff in the College of Business. On-line
assessment and moderation capability will be used with the new MBC. (P6131, Gray)
•
Identification of Podcasting as an important tool for UWS as part of an integrated lecture capture
and delivery system. Resources will be made available for staff, including: a podcasting section
on the Staff Support Site in vUWS, comprehensive resource sheets and TDU workshops on
emerging technologies. A tender is also being prepared for an integrated lecture capture and
delivery system for UWS. (P7135, Malfroy and Rankine)
Reported Achievements: Engaged Learning
•
Revised Unit Outline for Sport Management which could be used as a model for practice-based
learning. Literature review and recommendations regarding practice-based learning at UWS.
(P6122, Watson)
•
Service learning experiences for six Law students who were trained and placed in the ATO Tax
Help Centre at Parramatta in Spring 2007, with some students possibly including their service
learning experience into their assessment for the Advanced Tax Law uni. Strengthened ties
between UWS and the ATO. (P6123, Blissenden)
•
Web based information for students and staff in relation to the assessment of student’s learning
and reflection in Learning through Community Service (101117). A collection of rubrics for
evaluation has also been developed. (P6125, Whitton)
•
Patenting of two student industrial design solutions - one with UWS as a partner the other by
the student himself. The students’ work was informed by both their own research and their
engagement with an Indigenous Elder, community representatives of the Cowra Aboriginal Land
Council and an Indigenous Designer. (P7105, Tietz and Alexander)
•
Collaboration with four high schools in facilitating the integrated use of practice-based,
problem oriented learning for student teachers to meet the Institute of Teachers Standards for
Graduate Teachers in partnership with the Department of Education and Training (DET)… with
the possibility that this program will be scaled up to include 10 school groups in the Primary
Program across Greater Western Sydney. (P7119, Thistleton-Martin)
Reported Achievements: Enabling Initiatives
•
Development and establishment of the PASS program (Peer Assisted
Student Support). Participating students who attended 3 or more PASS
sessions obtained 10% higher average marks in the unit Diversity and
Difference. The number of Units running PASS has also increased. (P6107,
Power)
•
Evaluation of current usage of the Library’s electronic resources in
teaching across all Schools and incorporation of scholarly information
sources in WebCT. A second LTAP project has been funded in order to
address the identified under-utilisation of the library’s electronic resources.
(P6134, Curach)
•
A Report of the Audit of Indigenous Related Activities at UWS, which
included the mapping of current Indigenous related activities. The project
revealed the wide range of Indigenous related activities in all areas of
university work and the enthusiasm of staff to develop appropriate
Indigenous education initiatives as well as highlighting some key concerns
with Indigenous Education at UWS (P7100, McDaniel)
