California FBLA’s state competitive event and recognition program Find the CAP on the state website at www.cafbla.org, then click Competition LET’S TALK COMPETITIVE EVENTS 3 Levels of Competition SECTION STATE NATIONAL All FBLA members are eligible if membership dues are paid by January 23 to compete at Section or March 1 to compete at State COMPETITIVE EVENT TYPES OBJECTIVE EVENTS The events… they’re categorized! PRODUCTION EVENTS PERFORMANCE EVENTS INTERVIEW SPEECH PROJECT REPORT ROLE PLAY OBJECTIVE EVENTS Accounting I Agribusiness Business Calculations Business Communication Business Law Business Math Business Procedures Computer Problem Solving Cyber Security Economics FBLA Principles and Procedures Health Care Administration Insurance & Risk Management Introduction to Business Introduction to Business Communication Introduction to Information Technology Introduction to Parliamentary Procedure Networking Concepts Personal Finance Securities & Investments **NEW** OBJECTIVE EVENTS • Individual event • 1-hour multiple choice test at the conference • Each chapter can have 3-6 competitors for each event, depending on chapter size • Some events have grade level restrictions PRODUCTION EVENTS Accounting II Computer Applications Database Design & Applications Spreadsheet Applications Word Processing PRODUCTION EVENTS • Individual event • 1- or 2- hour production test at your school PLUS a 1-hour multiple choice test at the conference • Each chapter can have 3 competitors for each event • Advisers must submit a production test request for each participating student in order to compete PERFORMANCE EVENTS INTERVIEW SPEECH PROJECT REPORT ROLE PLAY PERFORMANCE EVENTS INTERVIEW Future Business Leader Job Interview INTERVIEW EVENTS • Individual event • Submit application materials including, but not limited to, resume and cover letter prior to the conference • Each chapter can have 2 competitors for each event • Interviews are conducted at the conference PERFORMANCE EVENTS SPEECH Creed Impromptu Speaking Public Speaking I Public Speaking II SPEECH EVENTS • • • • Individual event Each chapter can have 1 competitor for each event Speeches are prepared, except Impromptu Speaking Competitors are sequestered for Impromptu Speaking PERFORMANCE EVENTS PROJECT 3D Animation **NEW** Business Ethics Business Presentation Computer Game & Simulation Programming Desktop Application Programming Desktop Publishing Digital Design & Promotion Digital Video Production E-business Electronic Career Portfolio Emerging Business Issues Mobile Application Development Public Service Announcement Social Media Campaign **NEW** Website Design PROJECT EVENTS • • • • • Individual and team events Each chapter can have 1 entry for each event Complete a project based on provided topics Submit projects prior to the conference Presentation about project at the conference PERFORMANCE EVENTS REPORT American Enterprise Project Business Financial Plan Business Plan Community Service Project Local Chapter Annual Business Report Partnership With Business Project REPORT EVENTS • • • • • Individual, team, and chapter events Each chapter can have 1 entry for each event Complete a report based on provided guidelines Submit reports prior to the conference Presentation about report at the conference PERFORMANCE EVENTS ROLE PLAY Banking & Financial Systems Client Service Entrepreneurship Global Business Help Desk Hospitality Management Management Decision Making Management Information Systems Marketing Network Design Parliamentary Procedure Sports & Entertainment Management ROLE PLAY EVENTS • • • • • Individual and team events Each chapter can have 1 entry for each event 1-hour multiple choice test at the conference Interactive role play with judges at the conference Competitors are sequestered SOME EXTRA STUFF… OMG… I missed the section conference!! COMPETITIVE EVENT TIPS TIP # 7 DON’T BE LATE You’ll only stress yourself out… then get disqualified. LET’S TALK RECOGNITION PROGRAMS INDIVIDUAL CHAPTER Outstanding Local Chapter Adviser Who’s Who in FBLA California FBLA Scholarship Gold Seal Chapter Membership Awards Sweepstakes Award OUTSTANDING ADVISER • Recognition at section, state, and national levels • Great way to show appreciation for your adviser! • Must be nominated with recommendation letters WHO’S WHO IN FBLA • Recognition at section, state, and national levels • Nominate an outstanding member—1 person from each chapter is eligible (not including section/state officers)! • Submit application and resume CALIFORNIA FBLA SCHOLARSHIP • • • • • • Get $$$ for college! Current and former state officers are NOT eligible Be a senior and an FBLA member for at least 2 years Achieve Leader level of BAA awards Be in a chapter with at least 5 professional members Submit application, transcript, resume, essay, and 2 letters of recommendation • Finalists are interviewed at the state conference GOLD SEAL CHAPTER 15% of local chapters eligible for national recognition Key Tasks include (but not limited to): • Have 5 paid members by October 20 • Achieve Outstanding Chapter and complete 5 Program of Work (POW) Progress forms—see Business Achievement Awards (BAA) for more info • Submit a Local Chapter Annual Business Report MEMBERSHIP AWARDS • • • • Awarded at the State Leadership Conference Largest Increase in Local Chapter Membership Largest Local Chapter Membership Largest Local Chapter Membership—Professional Division • Largest % Increase in Local Chapter Membership • Market Share (Largest % of FBLA Members Based on School Enrollment) – need to submit verification! SWEEPSTAKES AWARD • Awarded at the section and state conferences • Recognizes top 10 chapters with the most points accumulated from winning competitive event awards • 10 points for 1st place, 9 points for 2nd place, etc. ANY QUESTIONS?
