See what your section can do to earmark funds to cover the travel expenses of your Section Primary Delegate and reps. Region 1 iSTEP Program (R1-R6 Revitalization Project) What is iSTEP? It is an integrated Student Transition to Engineering/Technology Professional event created by IEEE Region 1 to celebrate our student members: • where they are now • where they can help local K-12 STEM students • where they can go with IEEE’s assistance… IEEE is here to help them grow in their career Project: Region 1 – iSTEP – June 2012 PROJECT DESCRIPTION/SCOPE 2012 BUDGET & PROJECT METRICS Design, implement and test "iSTEP" – two each of an enhanced and revitalized STEP/Mentoring Program in each of the Region's four Areas in 2012. The 2012 iSTEP Working Group, led by Past Director Rubenstein as Principal Investigator/Coordinator, includes the Region’s Membership, GOLD, SAC, PACE, WIE and Life Member Chairs, the four Area Chairs, the D-E and Director. Forecast : $10K MGA and $10K Region 1 Actual: tbd Region 1 Students to GSM/Higher-Grade membership retention rate > 50% Number of mentor/mentee Relationships matched > 20 annual iSTEP Event Attendance – 50 per area event ISTEP Program Funding – Self Sustainable by 2014 2012 Milestones Target Completion % Complete 8/1 100 % Working Group Telecons 12/31/12 10% 6 Face-to-face meetings 6/20/12 17% Grad Pack Approved 10/30/12 25% Congrat Letter Approved 10/30/12 25% Advertising of iSTEPs 12/31/12 13% iSTEP / Area Training Event 12/31/12 25% Mentoring collocated iSTEP 12/31/12 25% Project Approved Project: Region 1 – iSTEP (as of June 2012) Project Highlights and Results to date: • Eight iSTEP events are being scheduled in 2012, one held • Incorporated iSTEP training in the March 2012 R1 Student Conference and 2012 R1 Training Workshop. • iSTEP materials and letters creation/revision by Boston Working Group are in progress and are expected to be completed by end of October 2012 • iSTEP announcement & Computer Society Chapter article created • Four iSTEP events were scheduled, advertised, and run in 2011 • Each of the four Areas of Region 1 had an iSTEP event coupled with training of the local Section Chairs and interested members. • Only reached about 10-20 students at each 2011 event due to late start • Feedback was evaluated and a face-to-face training session held 2011 Project Metrics Evaluation - iSTEP Model Changes: “Number of mentor/mentee Relationships matched - > 20 annual“ The original iSTEP Mentoring Model was not possible to accomplish in a single afternoon. Instead an overview of mentoring possible through IEEE activities is presented. 14 Where is iSTEP in 2012?
