Information technology infrastructure of
science
• Information technology infrastructure of science sector in
Poland is relatively modern and has been recently
constantly developed. There are very ambitious plans to
modernize, develop and fund the e-Infrastructures,
especially due to contribution of structural funds.
• Our strong assets are five high performance computing
centres and 21 Metropolitan Area Networks constituting
PIONIER national optical network, which provides access
to worldwide Internet resources including digital libraries
and links with domestic and foreign centres.
• A strong open grid services infrastructure has been
developed.

PIONIER topology (1)
The network topology includes over 6000 km of its own
optical fibres and will connect 21 optical academic
metropolitan area networks. The DWDM technology, up to
32 lambdas, is used starting with 10 Gb/s Ethernet.
The PIONIER Network offers data transmission of
guaranteed quality of service, and virtual private networks
enabling the usage of advanced applications and services.
Backup links as well as 24h/7d monitoring of the Network
Operation Centre ensure high reliability of the network.

PIONIER topology (2)
• The PIONIER Network has optical international links to
research and education networks such neighbouring
countries as Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia,
Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Russia.
• For the benefits of the European co-operation it provides
international connectivity to the pan-European network
GÉANT through 10 Gb/s Ethernet and 10 Gb/s Packet,
over Sonet direct connections between the PIONIER
Network and GÉANT PoP in Poznan.




The Innovative Economy Operational
Programme 2007-2013 (OP IE) is one of the
instruments for implementation of the National
Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) for
years 2007-2013.
Within the OP IE support is provided for
activities in the area of product (goods and
services), process and organisational innovations
in the production and service sectors.
8 priorities – OPI is an implementing institution
within the first priority – „Research and
development of new technologies”
Information Processing Centre OPI, Warsaw
The Innovative Economy, 2007-2013 (2)
• The implementation of Innovation Economy
Operation Programme, specially its priority Axis 2,
allows for big investments in the science facilities.
• Improvement of infrastructure and laboratory
equipment in national research centres of the highest
research potential is a way to competitiveness of
Polish research centres, higher level of research
services provided by scientific entities for enterprises
resulting in technology transfer.
Infrastructure and Environment, 2007-2013
 Goal of the programme – improving investment
significance of Poland and its regions
(development of technical infrastructure together
with preserving and improving the state of
environment, health, keeping cultural identity and
developing cohesive teritory)
 13 substantial priorities – OPI is an institution
which implements the XIII priority axis
supporting projects aimed at developing and
modernizing education and research infrastructure.
Funds available under the program are intended to
benefit institutions of higher education

Polish-Norwegian Research Fund
 The objective of the Polish-Norwegian Research
Fund is to establish and strengthen the long-term
co-operation between Polish and Norwegian
researchers focusing primarily on the
environmental and health research.
 OPI, as the Fund Operator, is responsible for a
process of Fund implementation, including: Call
for proposal, projects’ selection, agreements’
signing, reimbursements and monitoring.

The Polish -Swiss Research Programme (PSRP)
• Operational Programme For The Use Of Financial
Resources Under The Polish -Swiss Research Programme
2009 -2017
• The objective of the PSRP is to contribute to the
knowledge based economy through the enhancement of the
knowledge base and in particular through applied research
as well as know-how and technology transfer.
• The Polish – Swiss Research Programme shall be managed
by the Information Processing Centre (IPC) acting as the
Executing Agency, appointed with the recommendation of
the Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
