Respite
Crossroads Caring Scotland is a national charitable
organisation established in 1978. They provide
practical support to reduce the stress of carers by
providing care in their own home for someone who
is ill or disabled so that their carer can have a
meaningful break.
Crossroads' care attendants are highly trained to
take on all the personal care tasks that a carer
usually undertakes - this lets the carer leave the
person they look after with confidence

Befriending service
When friends and family live too far away to
make regular contact, the Royal Voluntary
Service can provide a little bit of company
and friendly social contact at home through
their befriending services.
Often available as part of our Good
Neighbours services or on their own as
befriending either face-to-face or on the
telephone, it helps to reduce feelings of
loneliness and increases motivation and
confidence.
This regular chat provides a vital link into the
community to those who can be socially
isolated because of restricted mobility or
because they can’t access public transport.
Their volunteers encourage older people to
get out and about - even if it's just to the end
of the garden - and to stay active.

Blue Badge
The Blue Badge scheme is for drivers or
passengers with severe mobility problems.
The scheme provides a range of on-street
parking concessions enabling Blue Badge holders
to park closer to where they need to go. The
scheme does not apply to off-street car parking,
for example in privately operated car parks at
supermarkets or airports.
The scheme operates throughout the UK and, in
Scotland, is managed by local authorities who
deal with applications and issue badges.
You must apply for a Blue Badge to the Scottish
local authority in which you are resident.

Telecare
Telecare is an alarm system with
a 24 hour call handling and
response service.
The service is mainly used as an
emergency contact service by
people who live alone but can
also support people who have
serious mobility and/or medical
problems.
There are a variety of Telecare
devices available which ensure
that people are safe in their own
homes, the most common being
a pendant alarm, an alarm unit
and a smoke detector.

Telecare
How does telecare work?
Each Telecare device is connected
to the Direct Response Service
Centre operated by Cordia, who
provide the alarm service.
Typically service users will press a
button on their pendant or alarm
unit in order to summon assistance in
an emergency.
A team of dedicated call handlers
will then receive the call. The call
handlers will respond to each
enquiry or emergency accordingly
depending upon the service user's
emergency need at the time.

Is there a charge for the Telecare
service?
Yes. You will have to pay for the
service you receive, however you do
not have to pay for the telecare
equipment which allows you to
contact the service when you need
help.
How much do I pay?
The service charge for the alarm
service will be £3 per week. If you
feel you may have difficulty in
making this payment, you can
complete a Financial Assessment
Form when you apply for telecare.
