Who will you be looking for? How do you determine who? What if no one seems qualified? How many to begin with? How to transition to next level? How do you begin? How do you begin the relationship? What level of commitment should be expected up front? How do you obtain the commitment? How often do you meet? How much time do you expect it to take? What will you do? How will you evaluate their needs? How will you evaluate their progress? What will you focus & major on? What methods will you use? What material will you use? What are optimal times & obstacles? Address Worldview beliefs; Cultural norms Spiritual growth expectations & evaluation Commitment; time, $, family pressures Step by step growth process Training them to reproduce on their own Developing team relationships Who else do you need to make this happen? Time Frames 90 minute sessions In-between informal times for fellowship and modeling Expanding friendships in the body Involvement in ministry Foundational Assumptions Everyone starts at the beginning No one tests out of any level Train your disciple-makers thoroughly Move slowly with high accountability Keep it “doing”, not just “knowing” Foundational Assumptions Leaders must be doers Avoid exclusivity in disciple-making Avoid authoritarianism and dependency Whole life stewardship is the goal Deal with problems as they arise Every issue is an opportunity for growth Foundational Assumptions There will be additional small groups ABF, Saturday seminars, Institute There will be expanding in-reach and outreach opportunities for ministry No leader is expected to do-it-all Total balanced church vision is key Where to begin Determine the model (O, D, C, S) weigh the pros and cons more than one option? Determine the timing and time frame more than one option? Select potential leaders for training Where to begin Determine the materials & methods Think 6 years down the road Keep the total ministry in balance Give time to plant the vision & grow it An example D-groups – Foundations ABF’s age-stage or topical Saturday Seminars – 4 hours Sunday Evening Institute – 4 Sunday nights 22 Community outreaches 8 Target outreaches (men, women, teens, kids) EE, Journey, Methods of Bible Study, etc. Balanced Diet Yearly Sermon Plan Verse for the year series – January Book Study 12 messages Doctrine Study 12 messages Songs of Summer (Poetical books) Relational Study 12 messages Christ Study Seminar/Institute Pre-marital counseling, 5 Essentials, Communication Leadership Levels Parenting (Pre-K, Elem, Teens, MT Nest) Evangelism training Anger & conflict resolution Biblical counseling basics
