Background: NCM Trg Review
At the Jan 09 XIAB on it was decided that the Inf school would conduct
a review of the NCM Training IOT:
 Optimise trg progression for Inf NCMs IOT ensure that they are
prepared for command roles and rank specific taskings.
 Review Inf DP 1-4 and develop training design and delivery options that
will:
 Deliver the right training at the right time in each NCMs career
progression
 Ensure that trg is relevant, rewarding, progressive and firmly based
in the COE
 Improve resource efficiency (especially training time) across the Inf
training system

FUTURE TRENDS
 DAPS, Attrition & the Demand for Snr NCOs.
 The Infantry School expects a substantial increase in the
demand for DP3A training in the near future.
 “A particular concern for the army is the growing
shortage of leadership, specifically in the ranks of tactical
level leaders….[today's] changing international security
environment with its emphasis on asymmetrical warfare
and counter-insurgency, [shows that] current leadership
challenges are neither temporary nor limited.”
 LGen Andrew Leslie, CLS

Assumptions and Methodology




LFSAT was utilised
A review of JBS was conducted as a preliminary stage
Stakeholder input was (and is being) sought
Changes will not be made unless they can be shown to be fully
justified
 Work to conduct any QS or TP changes will begin after the May 09
CIA
 Training Must be delivered ‘Just In Time’
 A ‘Lean Training’ philosophy was employed

Conclusion
 Input now required:
 Validation of the results of the review
 Selection of the optimal training sequence
 Approval for further development
 Next Phase of the Project
 Presenting these recommendations for approval in principle to AITA,
DAT and Comd LFDTS.
 Staffing changes to OS, QS, and TPs of DP1, IPSWQ, PLQ-INF, and
DP3A. The creation of a generic Field Firing course with an OSS, QS
and TP is already staffed at DAT since the rest of the Army requires this
training also.
