BLG Tablet is a battery life saver which prevents battery by early
premature failure. It is used in electrolyte of free flooded
conventional lead acid batteries.
BLG Tablets contains
Sodium sulfate anhydrous LR Grade
Zinc sulfate anhydrous LR Grade
Fumed Colloidal Silicon dioxide (Aerosil 200 a product of Degussa USA)
Zonyl 1033D (Forafac a product of Dupont USA) Highly pure grade.

 Sodium sulfate and Zinc sulfate is a white, orthorhombic
crystalline stable compound, which does not decompose and does not
react with oxidizing and reducing agent at normal and high
temperatures.
 Sodium sulfate and Zinc sulfate are added to battery electrolyte to
depress the formation of large lead sulfate crystals that are difficult to
recharge.

 Sodium Sulfate and zinc Sulfate increases the solubility of lead
Sulfate while charging lead acid battery at lower acid concentrations
due to the common ion effect.(Le chatleirs principle)
 It inhibits growth of large crystals i.e. called hard Sulfate, occurs
by a dissolution precipitation process when the battery is on open
circuit. At the low acid concentrations in a discharged battery the
solubility of lead Sulfate is higher
 Most of the reputed companies in India and other countries are
using Sodium Sulfate & Zinc Sulfate Tablets as a electrolyte additive
since a long in lead acid Flooded and VRLA batteries.

 By addition of Aerosil 200 i.e. Fumed colloidal silicon dioxide in BLG
Tablet, due to its thickening property of electrolyte it shows remarkable
effect in electrolyte stratification.(Degussa technical literature usa) It is also
used in preparation of Electro gel used in VRLA batteries, details as
follows.
Electrolyte Stratification:
Acceleration due to gravity causes concentration gradient in the electrolyte
from top to bottom of the cell in a flooded electrolyte lead acid battery. The
concentrated acid sinks to the bottom and dilute acid raises to the top. This
phenomenon is called acid stratification.

 Acid stratification causes the top of the plate to Sulfate and lower
portion to corrode and fail prematurely affecting performance and life of
the cell. In Lead Acid Batteries the sulfuric acid has more density at lower
portion of the plates while the upper portion are low in acid content and
more dilute. The discharge process occurs at lower level of the plates
while the charging process begins at upper portions of the plates on
account of lesser Sulfation; lesser electrical resistance of plates and more
solubility of lead Sulfate in water reach upper portions of the electrolyte.
As a result of stratification of sulfuric acid-denser at the bottom, and weak
at the top. The lower portions of the plates invariably get more Sulfated
either during service or on idling.

 Our experiments shows clear indications BLG Tablets prevents
settling of acid electrolyte, maintains uniform density of electrolyte
along the whole height of partition and all cells of Lead Acid
Battery.
 The number one cause of mechanically sound battery failure
occurs when lead Sulfate crystals turn abnormally hard and clog
the plate surface, acid cannot enter the pores and starves to death.
Sulfate occurs normally in lead-acid battery however during the
charge phase some crystal remain, accumulated and harden
between the plates to the point that normal charging will not break
them down.

 In short colloidal silicon dioxide is insoluble in electrolyte solution it
works externally i.e. while discharging smaller particles of colloidal
silicon dioxide combines with the residue of lead sulfate, while
reversible reaction starts i.e. charging colloidal silicon dioxide
disintegrate that hard lead sulfate residue and helps to breaking them
and dissolves in electrolyte solution.
 Addition of little concentration 0.1% of the effect of FORAFAC
Zonyl 1033D (poly-fluoroalkyl sulfonic acid) as electrolyte additive on
the performance of lead acid batteries.
 This additive has a surfactant character and its stability is
increased by substitution of some hydrogen atoms by fluoride atoms in
the molecule. With the use of FORAFAC Zonyl 1033D, the objective is
to improve the life of lead acid batteries for standby & vehicle
applications.

 Comparative accelerated floating tests with and without FORAFAC
zonyl 1033D have been carried out on standard AGM batteries.
Batteries containing FORAFAC zonyl 1033D in acid at low
concentration (0.1%) show a remarkable electrical behavior during the
test.
A good influence of FORAFAC zonyl 1033D on water consumption and
on self-discharge is also observed. Results indicate that the life
duration of lead acid batteries could be improved by a factor 1.5 to 2
with the use of FORAFAC zonyl 1033D .
 The mechanism of the FORAFAC zonyl 1033D action has been
investigated and proved by many reputed companies. The use of the
FORAFAC zonyl 1033D method appears to be a very promising
solution in order to improve the behavior of lead acid batteries. For
example, it is useful for applications at higher temperatures or to
increase the specific energy of batteries by the utilization of thinner
grid collectors and plates.

 Forafac zonyl 1033 D is an anionic fluorinated surfactant.
It reduces the surface tension of aqueous solutions to
very low levels.
 Forafac zonyl 1033 D distinguishes itself by its exceptional
chemical stability in corrosive medium and, in particular, very acidic
solutions. it also act as a very low foaming agent.
 Forafac zonyl 1033 D imparts additional properties that
may prove to be useful to any formulation based on
aggressive (highly acidic, oxidizing, or reducing) media.
 Forafac zonyl 1033 D addition to lead acid battery & VRLA
electrolyte recommended by researchers from CEAC,france (Now
Exide).

By use of this battery performs consistent cycle-life, longer life
& high coefficient of utilization.
We had conducted more trials & test of the BLG Tablets on
different models of various companies lead acid battery
electrolyte in newly manufactured & old lead acid batteries
shows the significance effect i.e. it increases the utilization of
active material by dissolving lead sulfate into electrolyte &
creates more porous structure in the plates for diffusion.
