Establishment of Zion
Servant of the Lord Jesus Christ
First, It’s Important to Note …
“… For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much
be required; and to whom the Lord has committed
much, of him will men ask the more.”
Luke 12:57
“… for unto whom much is given, much is required; and he
who sins against the greater light shall receive the
greater condemnation.”
DC 81:1c
This is talking about understanding of the Gospel and
establishment of Zion, the Kingdom of God, on earth
The key is the vision of Zion …
"Where there is no vision, the people
perish; but he that keepeth the law,
happy is he.”
Proverbs 29:18
Zion
what, why, &
how
What is Zion?
“And it came to pass in the thirty and sixth year, the
people were all converted unto the Lord, upon all
the face of the land, both Nephites and Lamanites,
and
1. there were no contentions and disputations among
them, and
2. every man did deal justly one with another;
3. And they had all things common among them,
therefore they were not rich and poor, bond and free,
but
4. they were all made free, and
5. partakers of the heavenly gift.”
IV Nephi 1:3-4
And also …
“Therefore verily thus saith the Lord, Let
Zion rejoice, for this is Zion, THE PURE
IN HEART; therefore let Zion rejoice”
DC 94:5c
Where did the name come from?
“And the Lord called his people, Zion,
because
1.
2.
3.
they were of one heart and of one mind,
and
dwelt in righteousness; and
there were no poor among them.”
Genesis 7:23 DC 36:2hi
Conversely the Lord said, …
“… I say unto you, Be one; and if ye are
not one, ye are not mine.”
DC 38:6a
Whose kingdom is it?
“And the Lord said, Blessed is he through
whose seed Messiah shall come; for he
saith, I am Messiah, the King of Zion,
the Rock of heaven, which is broad as
eternity; and whoso cometh in at the
gate, and climbeth up by me shall never
fall.”
Genesis 7:59 or DC 36:10gh Psalms 149:2
When has Zion existed on the earth?
Enoch’s City (Genesis 7:20-25)
 Salem (Psalms 76:2)
 Golden Years (approximately 100 years) in
BOM land after Christ came
(IV Nephi 1:3-4,6)
 Certain times during Old Testament



Adam, Abraham, Moses at Mount Horeb
Early Church (Acts 2:38-47, 4:32-37, 5:14-16)
Will Zion exist again?
“… righteousness and truth will I cause to sweep
the earth as with a flood, to gather out mine
own elect from the four quarters of the earth
unto a place which I shall prepare; a holy city,
that my people may gird up their loins, and be
looking forth to the time of my coming; for
there shall be my tabernacle, and it shall be
called Zion, a New Jerusalem.”
Genesis 7:70 & DC 36:12fg
Why will Zion exist again?
“…wherefore the decree hath gone forth from
the Father that they shall be gathered in
unto one place, upon the face of this land,
to prepare their hearts, and be prepared in
all things, against the day when tribulation
and desolation are sent forth upon the
wicked …”
DC 28:2d
Zion will be our Salvation …
“Watch, therefore, for ye know neither the day
nor the hour. Let them, therefore, who are
among the Gentiles, flee unto Zion.”
DC 108:4
“And then shall they assist my people that they
may be gathered in, who are scattered upon
all the face of the land, in unto the New
Jerusalem.”
III Nephi 10:3
Again, Zion will be our Salvation
“And that a New Jerusalem should be built up upon this land,
unto the remnant of the seed of Joseph, for which things
there has been a type; for as Joseph brought his father
down into the land of Egypt, even so he died there;
Wherefore the Lord brought a remnant of the seed of
Joseph out of the land of Jerusalem, that he might be
merciful unto the seed of Joseph, that they should perish
not, even as he was merciful unto the father of Joseph, that
he should perish not; Wherefore the remnant of the house
of Joseph shall be built up upon this land; and it shall be a
land of their inheritance; and they shall build up a holy city
unto the Lord, like unto the Jerusalem of old; and they shall
no more be confounded, until the end come, when the
earth shall pass away.”
Ether 6:6-8

“Remember this which I tell you before, that you may lay it to heart, and receive that
which shall follow. Behold, verily I say unto you, For this cause I have sent you
that you might be obedient, and that your hearts might be prepared to bear
testimony of the things which are to come; and also that you might be honored of
laying the foundation, and of bearing record of the land upon which the Zion of
God shall stand; and also that a feast of fat things might be prepared for the poor;
yea, a feast of fat things, of wine on the lees well refined, that the earth may know
that the mouths of the prophets shall not fail; yea, a supper of the house of the
Lord, well prepared, unto which all nations shall be invited.

Behold, I, the Lord, have spoken it. And that the testimony might go forth from Zion;

sent you hither, and have selected my servant Edward Partridge, and have

David sought Zion …
Zion in David’s Time (II Samuel 5:3-12)
3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with
them in Hebron before the Lord; and they anointed David king over Israel.
4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned
thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land;
which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not
come in hither; thinking, David cannot come in hither.
7 Nevertheless, David took the stronghold of Zion; the same is the city of David.
8 And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites,
and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain.
Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.
9 So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from
Millo and inward.
10 And David went on, and grew great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him.
11 And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and
masons; and they built David a house.
12 And David perceived that the Lord had established him king over Israel, and that he had
exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.
Ark of the Covenant moved to Jerusalem (I Kings 8:1)
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the
fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the
ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Zion.
A Historian’s understanding of Zion



The name Zion was originally used for the mountain on which Jerusalem
was built.
The name first appears in the story of David's capture of Jerusalem,
which was called the stronghold of Zion.
Later the name was also used for the part of the slope on which the
temple was situated.
Zion was supposedly the dwelling place of God.
Mount Zion is the highest point in the city of Jerusalem.
For more than a thousand years, Jewish tradition has identified Mount
Zion as being the last resting place of King David and his descendants
Mount Zion is the site of the Last Supper and the place where the
supposedly Virgin Mary died.

300BC, a large Jewish community sprung up in Alexandria
and many other Greek cities around the Mediterranean Sea.
There was a great library in Alexandria and the Pharaoh, one
Ptolemy II, ordered that it should contain a copy of the
Hebrew Scriptures translated into Greek. The finest Jewish
scholars ordered to assemble in Alexandria to undertake the
great work of translation. Seventy two scribes, six from each
of the twelve tribes, each produced a Greek copy of the
Pentateuch absolutely identical to all the others. This was
seen as a sign that the new translation was divinely inspired
and it became widely accepted by Greek speaking Jews as an
acceptable (and understandable) substitute for the Hebrew
original.

The truth is that well before the birth of Christ,
the Septuagint was being used by the Jews of
the Diaspora and was familiar even to those
still in Palestine. This meant that the main
focus of Jewish intellectual life switched from
Hebrew into Greek - the lingua franca of the
Mediterranean - and additions to the scriptures
made after about 300BC were usually in that
language.
 It is these additions that now make up the OT
Apocrypha and most of them were never
written in Hebrew.

Key distinction in the
Inspired Version of the
Bible is Enoch’s City.
What do other versions
say about Enoch?
Enoch in King James Bible OT …
“Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years,
and begot Enoch. After he begot Enoch, Jared
lived eight hundred years, and had sons and
daughters. So all the days of Jared were nine
hundred and sixty-two years; and he died.
Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot
Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah,
Enoch walked with God three hundred years,
and had sons and daughters. So all the days
of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five
years. And Enoch walked with God; and he
was not, for God took him.”
Genesis 5:18-24
Enoch in King James Bible NT …
“By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see
death, "and was not found, because God had taken
him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony,
that he pleased God.”
Hebrews 11:5
“Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about
these men also, saying, "Behold, the Lord comes with
ten thousands of His saints, to execute judgment on
all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all
their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an
ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly
sinners have spoken against Him.”
Jude 1:14-15
How did they come to
understand the vision of
Zion from the
Restoration of the
fullness of the gospel?
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

September 23, 1827:


April 5, 1829 (DC 6):


DC 6:3a first stated to establish the cause of Zion; other scriptures
followed with similar direction, see DC 10:3a, DC 11:3b, DC 12:3a,
DC 19:2d,
March 26, 1830:


Joseph Smith, Jr. received the golden plates, from which the Book of
Mormorn (BOM) was translated, from the angel Moroni
BOM first advertised for sale. The BOM contained information about
a New Jerusalem, but with just this information, plus considering the
amount of new information, my guess is that they did not have much
understanding about Zion yet.

June 1830:


July 1830 (DC 23):


Joseph Smith commenced with the revision of the Bible to create
our Inspired Version of the Bible. Enoch City expands our
understanding of Zion.
DC 23:4a This revelation is given due to the persecution that
Joseph and Oliver received because of the BOM. Joseph Smith
is told, “For thou shalt devote all thy service in Zion. And in this
thou shalt have strength.”
August 1830 (DC 28):

DC 28:2d states that the chosen shall be gathered in unto one
place to prepare against the day that tribulation and desolation
are sent forth upon the wicked. It does not, however, call this
place Zion.
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

December 1830 (DC 34):


Revelation given to Sidney Rigdon which clarifies that Zion will
be a physical entity. DC 34:6a, “Keep all the commandments
and covenants by which ye are bound, and I will cause the
heavens to shake for your good, and Satan shall tremble, and
Zion shall rejoice upon the hills, and flourish; and Israel shall be
saved in mine own due time.”
December 1830 (DC 36):

A revelation was given on the prophecy of Enoch which is now
DC 36 and Genesis 7:1-78. This was a major step in our
understanding of Zion for it clarified the power that God would
give His servants, the degree of righteousness that was required,
and the great reward that could be obtained to dwell with God.
Additionally, it substantiated that this standard of living was
possible with the Spirit of God dwelling in man.
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

Early January 1831 (DC 38):


Lord says that he deigns to give greater riches, even a land of
promise, a land flowing with milk and honey, upon which there
shall be no curse when the Lord cometh if we seek it with all our
hearts. This shall be the Lord’s covenant with us that we shall
have it for the land of our inheritance while the earth shall stand
and we shall possess it again in eternity, no more to pass away.
January 1831 (DC 39):

Revelation given to James Covill, a Baptist minister, who sought
light concerning his relation to the Restoration movement, but it
applies to all. It clearly states that the church is to again bring
forth a physical Zion for DC 39:4b says, “Thou art called to labor
in my vineyard, and to build up my church, and to bring forth
Zion, that it may rejoice upon the hills and flourish.”
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

February 1831:


Joseph & Emma arrived in Kirtland, Ohio via sled.
February 9, 1831 (DC 42 & 43):

DC 42 a revelation given in the presence of twelve elders which was viewed
as the Laws of the Church. It included direction (DC 42:10bc) to have a
storehouse to administer to the poor and needy, to purchase lands, build
houses of worship, and to build up the New Jerusalem. Notice, this is the
first tie in with the BOM by using this terminology for Zion.

Also worth noting is that they now understood clearly that Jesus Christ would
come to the temple that they were to build in Zion.

Additionally, in February 1831 given in DC 43:7b it states, “… for in my own
due time will I come upon the earth in judgment; and my people shall be
redeemed and shall reign with me on earth.” This was a distinct theological
shift that their heaven was not somewhere else, but on earth. Recall that
before this their understanding was that Enoch’s city was taken to be with
God.
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

March 7, 1831 (DC 45):

The Saints were experiencing much hardship, due to the
persecution and the large amount of poor gathering quickly at
Kirtland. With this in mind DC 45 was received that promised
hope in the vision of Zion. Specifically it promised,




in v. 12 that the terror of the Lord would be in Zion and that the
wicked would not come upon it;
in v. 13 that those who would not take up sword against his
neighbor must flee to Zion for safety; and
in v. 14 that the righteous should be gathered out from all nations
to come to Zion singing with songs of everlasting joy.
March 1831 (DC 49):

Later this same month in DC 49:5 the promise was given that
Zion shall flourish and that gathering should take place where
the Lord appoints.
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

Early June 1831 (DC 52):


God first designated the location for Zion. DC 52;2e, “if ye
are faithful, ye shall assemble yourselves together to rejoice
upon the land of Missouri, which is the land of your
inheritance, which is now the land of your enemies.”
June 1831 (DC 54):

The people first directed to go to the location of Zion. DC
54:2, “Wherefore, go to now and flee the land, lest your
enemies come upon you; and take your journey, and appoint
whom you will to be your leader, and to pay moneys for you.
And thus you shall take your journey into the regions
westward, and unto the land of Missouri, unto the borders of
the Lamanites. And after you have done journeying, behold, I
say unto you, Seek ye a living like unto men, until I prepare a
place for you.”
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

July 1831 (DC 57):

First revelation given in the land of Zion, given to those elders who
were faithful in going to this land as directed. Their efforts were validated
with further clarification of where the temple should be built, for DC 57:1
says, “Hearken, O ye elders of my church saith the Lord your God, who
have assembled yourselves together, according to my commandments,
in this land which is the land of Missouri, which is the land which I have
appointed and consecrated for the gathering of the Saints: wherefore
this is the land of promise, and the place for the city of Zion. And
thus saith the Lord your God, If you will receive wisdom here is wisdom.
Behold, the place which is now called Independence, is the Center
Place, and the spot for the temple is lying westward upon a lot which is
not far from the courthouse; wherefore it is wisdom that the land should
be purchased by the Saints; and also every tract lying westward, even
unto the line running directly between Jew and Gentile. And also every
tract bordering by the prairies, inasmuch as my disciples are enabled to
buy lands. Behold, this is wisdom, that they may obtain it for an
everlasting inheritance.”

Additionally, in this revelation they are directed to establish a storehouse
and a house for printing.
Latter Day Development of the Vision of Zion

August 1, 1831 (DC 58):

First week in Zion, four revelations given and many events
occurred including the dedication of the temple and the first
conference held in the land of Zion. As more Saints arrive in
Independence DC 58 given to further direct them.




specifically they are told in v. 4 that God’s law shall be kept on
this land
in v.10c to purchase the whole region round about
in v. 13a to consecrate and dedicate this land and the spot for
the temple unto the Lord
furthermore, in v. 15d the vision is expanded that from this place
the gospel will go forth unto all the world with signs that follow
those that believe

verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that

Ben-Tziyon From the Hebrew, meaning “excellence” or “son of
Zion.”
Zion or Tzion (‫" ציון‬Height", Standard Hebrew Ẓiyyon, Tiberian
Hebrew Ṣiyy?b>; Arabic ‫ صهيون‬Ṣuhyūn) originally was the specific
name given to a Jebusite fortress near modern-day Jerusalem
that was conquered by David. The original fortress was located
on the hill in southeastern Jerusalem, called Mount Zion.
Zion, or Sion, is an archaic term that originally referred to a
section of Jerusalem, which, by Biblical definition, is the City of
David. After the death of King David, the term Zion came to refer
to the hill in Jerusalem which was the site of Solomon's temple.
Later, Zion came to refer to temple and the temple grounds
themselves. Beyond that, Zion is used to symbolize Jerusalem
and the Promised Land of God to come, in which God dwells
among his chosen people.

What is Messiah’s Ultimate Purpose?
“… may the kingdom of God go forth [on the
earth], that the kingdom of heaven may
come, that thou, O God, may be glorified
in heaven, so on earth, that thy enemies
may be subdued; for thine is the honor,
power, and glory, for ever and ever.

Kingdom of Heaven Means …
“But behold, an awful death cometh upon the wicked; for they die
as to things pertaining to things of righteousness; for they are
unclean, and no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of

"No unclean thing can enter into the Celestial Kingdom."
III Nephi 12:31
“For no unclean thing can dwell there, or dwell in His presence;

the name of his Only Begotten is the Son of Man, even Jesus
Christ, a righteous judge, who shall come in the meridian of
time.”

Seeking the Face of God …

Job 33:26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favorable unto him; and he
shall see his face with joy; for he will render unto man his righteousness

I Chronicles 16:11 Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.
Psalms 105:4 Seek the Lord, and his strength; seek his face evermore.
Psalms 24:6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O
Jacob. Selah.


DC 83:3c-4b Therefore, in the ordinances thereof the power of godliness is
manifest; and without the ordinances thereof, and the authority of the priesthood,
the power of godliness is not manifest unto men in the flesh; for without this, no
man can see the face of God, even the Father, and live.
4a Now, this Moses plainly taught to the children of Israel in the wilderness, and
sought diligently to sanctify his people that they might behold the face of
God;
4b but they hardened their hearts, and could not endure his presence, therefore,
the Lord, in his wrath (for his anger was kindled against them), swore that they
should not enter into his rest, while in the wilderness, which rest is the fullness of
his glory.

Blood sacrifice was required …
“O remember, remember, my sons, the words
which King Benjamin spake unto his people;
yea, remember that there is no other way nor
means whereby man can be saved, only
through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who
shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to
redeem the world.”
BOM Helaman 2:71
Water, Blood …
“For, by the water ye keep the
commandment; by the Spirit ye are
justified; and by the blood ye are
sanctified.”
Genesis 6:63
Death could not hold Jesus …
“Wherefore the almighty God gave his only begotten
Son, as it is written in those scriptures which have
been given of him; he suffered temptations but gave
no heed unto them; he was crucified, died, and rose
again the third day; and ascended into heaven to sit
down on the right hand of the Father, to reign with
almighty power according to the will of the Father, that
as many as would believe and be baptized, in his holy
name, and endure in faith to the end, should be
saved.”
DC 17:5a-d
Jesus was crucified for sin …
“For, behold, I will bless all those who labor in
my vineyard, with a mighty blessing, and they
shall believe on his words, which are given
him through me, by the Comforter, which
manifesteth that Jesus was crucified by sinful
men, for the sins of the world; yea, for the
remission of sins unto the contrite heart.”
DC 19:3a
see also Genesis 6:64
The greatness of this …
“For, behold, I, God have suffered these things for all that
they might not suffer, if they would repent; but if they
would not repent, they must suffer even as I; which
suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all,
to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore,
and to suffer both body and spirit, and would that I
might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink;
nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and
finished my preparations unto the children of men.”
DC 18:2h-j
Christ took love every where …
“… even of God, the holiest of all, through
Jesus Christ, his Son; he that ascended
up on high, as also he descended below
all things, in that he comprehended all
things, that he might be in all and
through all things, the light of truth, which
truth shineth. This is the light of Christ.”
DC 85:2a-b
Other things to consider …

What does Jesus mean?



Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means the LORD Saves or
YHWH Saves.
In regard to the devine name YHWH, commonly referred to as the
Tetragrammaton, the translators adopted the device used in most
English versions of rendering that name as "LORD" in captial letters
to distinguish it from Adonai, another Hebrew word rendered "Lord,"
for which small letters are used.
What does Christ mean?



Christ simply means The Anointed.
the word "anoint" is simply "to pour on oil."
Oil is symbolic of the presence of the Holy Spirit. That Christ means
The Anointed is essentially a synonym for someone, some place or
some people (or anything else) on whom has been poured out The
Holy Spirit.

Basics of Judgment …
“And it pleaseth God that he hath given all these things unto man; for unto
this end were they made, to be used with judgment, not to excess,
neither by extortion:
and in nothing doth man offend God, or against none is his wrath
kindled, save those who confess not his hand in all things, and obey not
his commandments.
Behold, this is according to the law and the prophets: wherefore trouble
me no more concerning this matter, but learn that he who doeth the
works of righteousness, shall receive his reward, even peace in this
world, and eternal life in the world to come. I, the Lord, have spoken it
and the Spirit beareth record. Amen.”
DC 59:5
“For it shall come to pass, saith the Father, that at that day, whosoever will
not repent and come unto my beloved Son, them will I cut off from
among my people, O house of Israel, and I will execute vengeance and
fury upon them, even as upon the heathen, such as they have not
heard.”
3 Nephi 9:106
Limits to our time to choose …
“Therefore, let no man among you (for this commandment is unto all the faithful who
are called of God in the church, unto the ministry,) from this hour, take purse or
scrip, that goeth forth to proclaim this gospel of the kingdom. Behold, I send you
out to reprove the world of all their unrighteous deeds, and to teach them of a
judgment which is to come. …
He that receiveth you not, go away from him alone by yourselves, and cleanse your
feet, even with water, pure water, whether in heat or in cold, and bear testimony of
it unto your Father which is in heaven, and return not again unto that man. And
into whatsoever village or city ye enter, do likewise. Nevertheless, search
diligently and spare not; and woe unto that house, or that village, or city, that
rejecteth you, or your words, or testimony concerning me. Woe, I say again, unto
that house, or that village, or city, that rejecteth you, or your words, or your
testimony of me; for I, the Almighty, have laid my hands upon the nations to
scourge them for their wickedness; and plagues shall go forth, and they shall not
be taken from the earth until I have completed my work, which shall be cut short in
righteousness; until all shall know me, who remain, even from the least unto the
greatest, and shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, and shall see eye to
eye, and shall lift up their voice, and with the voice together sing this new song,
saying:
The Lord hath brought again Zion: The Lord hath redeemed his people, Israel,
According to the election of grace, Which was brought to pass by the faith And
covenant of their fathers.”
DC 83:15-17
Judgment begins …

85:23a Therefore, tarry ye, and labor diligently, that you may be perfected in your ministry, to
go forth among the Gentiles for the last time, as many as the mouth of the Lord shall name, to
bind up the law, and seal up the testimony, and to prepare the Saints for the hour of judgment,
which is to come;

85:23b that their souls may escape the wrath of God, the desolation of abomination, which
await the wicked, both in this world, and in the world to come.

85:23c Verily, I say unto you, Let those who are not the first elders, continue in the vineyard,
until the mouth of the Lord shall call them, for their time is not yet come; their garments are not
clean from the blood of this generation.

85:24a Abide ye in the liberty wherewith ye are made free; entangle not yourselves in sin, but
let your hands be clean, until the Lord come,

85:24b for not many days hence and the earth shall tremble, and reel to and fro as a drunken
man, and the sun shall hide his face, and shall refuse to give light, and the moon shall be
bathed in blood, and the stars shall become exceeding angry, and shall cast themselves down
as a fig that falleth from off a fig tree.

85:25a And after your testimony, cometh wrath and indignation upon the people; for after your
testimony cometh the testimony of earthquakes, that shall cause groanings in the midst of her,
and men shall fall upon the ground, and shall not be able to stand.
How judgment will take place …
“I, the Lord, am angry with the wicked; I am holding my Spirit from
the inhabitants of the earth. I have sworn in my wrath and
decreed wars upon the face of the earth, and the wicked shall
slay the wicked, and fear shall come upon every man, and the
Saints also shall hardly escape; nevertheless, I, the Lord, am with
them, and [I] will come down in heaven from the presence of my
Father, and consume the wicked with unquenchable fire.
And, behold, this is not yet, but by and by; wherefore seeing that
I, the Lord, have decreed all these things upon the face of the
earth, I will that my saints should be assembled upon the land of
Zion; and that every man should take righteousness in his hands,
and faithfulness upon his loins, and lift a warning voice unto the
inhabitants of the earth; and declare both by word and by flight,
that desolation shall come upon the wicked.”
DC 63:9a-e
(see also DC 28:2d-g, DC 108:8-9 &12, Deut 30:15-20
On whom does it start …
“Verily, verily I say unto you, Darkness covereth the earth, and
gross darkness the minds of the people, and all flesh has
become corrupt before my face. Behold, vengeance
cometh speedily upon the inhabitants of the earth--a day of
wrath, a day of burning, a day of desolation, of weeping, of
mourning, and of lamentation--and as a whirlwind it shall
come upon all the face of the earth, saith the Lord. And
upon my house shall it begin, and from my house shall it go
forth, saith the Lord. First among those among you, saith
the Lord, who have professed to know my name and have
not known me, and have blasphemed against me in the
midst of my house, saith the Lord.”
DC 105:9-10
Final Judgment …
“And even unto the great and last day, when all people, and all
kindreds, and all nations and tongues shall stand before God, to
be judged of their works, whether they be good or whether they
be evil;If they be good, to the resurrection of everlasting life; and
if they be evil, to the resurrection of damnation, being on a
parallel, the one on the one hand, and the other on the other
hand, according to the mercy, and the justice, and the holiness
which is in Christ, who was before the world began.”
3 Nephi 11:32-33
“And thus they are restored into his presence; to be judged
according to their works; according to the law and justice; for
behold, justice exerciseth all his demands, and also mercy
claimeth all which is her own; and thus, none but the truly
penitent are saved.”

Ultimate Purpose of Zion …
“Behold, it is my will, that all they who call on my name, and
worship me according to mine everlasting gospel, should
gather together and stand in holy places, and prepare for
the revelation which is to come when the veil of the
covering of my temple, in my tabernacle, which hideth
the earth, shall be taken off, and all flesh shall see me
together.
And every corruptible thing, both of man, or of the beasts
of the field, or of the fowls of heaven, or of the fish of the
sea, that dwell upon all the face of the earth, shall be
consumed; and also, that of element shall melt with
fervent heat; and all things shall become new, that my
knowledge and glory may dwell upon all the earth. “

possess the earth, and shall have place until the end
come.”

from the Father that they shall be gathered in unto one
place, upon the face of this land, to prepare their
hearts, and be prepared in all things, against the day
when tribulation and desolation are sent forth upon the
wicked; for the hour is nigh, and the day soon at hand,
when the earth is ripe; and all the proud, and they that

Why the Fullness?
Physical Salvation – Zion a place
 Spiritual Salvation – Atonement &
Sanctification through the Holy Ghost


This is the message the world will need
to hear as things worsen and men loose
confidence in Babylon
In other word’s Church’s Mission …
“The movements toward better understanding of
ministerial responsibilities, duties, and goals, and
toward unity of endeavor in teaching, preaching,
evangelizing, and the perfecting of the Saints, are
pleasing to the Lord.
Contentions, bickerings, and strife are unseemly,
hinder the work of the church, and should not find
place among the Saints.
Only in the peace of fraternity and the unity of those
caught up in the spirit of Zionic redemption can the
work of the Lord be accomplished. To this task let the
church devote its energies.”

“Infallible Proofs” by Alvin Knisley
“Therefore, treasure up the words of the Lord, for he has
spoken to his people repeatedly to come out from the world
and its follies and pleasures. Therefore, heed the word of
the Spirit to you this morning and turn your back upon the
world and its vanities and pleasures; come out from the
sins and mysteries of Babylon and get in touch with your
Heavenly Father, and in the day of terror thou shalt be
delivered … forsake the follies and pleasures of the world
and try to live in harmony with the will and law of God, and
the abundance of the riches of the Spirit shall be ministered
unto you. Amen.”

Repentance
“Therefore, according to justice, the plan of
redemption could not be brought about only, on
conditions of repentance of men in this probationary
state …”
BOM Alma 19:94
“And thus they are restored into his presence; to be
judged according to their works; according to the law
and justice; for behold, justice exerciseth all his
demands, and also mercy claimeth all which is her
own; and thus, none but the truly penitent are saved.”
BOM Alma 19:106
Repentance
“… the thing which will be of the most worth
unto you, will be to declare repentance unto
this people, that you may bring souls unto me,
that you may rest with them in the kingdom of
my Father. Amen.”
DC 13:3
“for, behold, I command all men everywhere to
repent …”
DC 16:3b
Repentance
“By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his
sins, Behold, he will confess them and forsake
them.”
DC 58:8d
“wherefore I will that all men shall repent, for all
are under sin, except them which I have
reserved unto myself, holy men that ye know
not of…”
DC 49:2c
Repentance
“… for I the Lord can not look upon sin with the least
degree of allowance; nevertheless, he that repents and
does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven;
and he that repents not, from him shall be taken even
the light which he has received, for my Spirit shall not
always strive with man, saith the Lord of Hosts.”
DC 1:5fg
“Say nothing but repentance unto this generation; keep
my commandments, and assist to bring forth my work
according to my commandments, and you shall be
blessed.”
DC 6:4b
Need for repentance …
“… and the whole world lieth in sin, and groaneth
under darkness and under the bondage of sin:
and by this you may know they are under the
bondage of sin, because they come not unto
me; for whoso cometh not unto me is under
the bondage of sin; and whoso receiveth not
my voice is not acquainted with my voice, and
is not of me; and by this you may know the
righteous from the wicked and that the whole
world groaneth under sin and darkness even
now.”
DC 83:7f-i
Limits to Repentance
“For behold, if ye deny the Holy Ghost when it once has had place in
you, and ye know that ye deny it; behold, this is a sin which is
unpardonable.”
Alma 19:8
“Behold, the pride of this nation, or the people of the Nephites, hath
proven their destruction, except they should repent. Pray for
them, my son, that repentance may come unto them. But behold,
I fear lest the Spirit hath ceased striving with them; and in this part
of the land they are also seeking to put down all power and
authority, which cometh from God; and they are deny the Holy
Ghost, And after rejecting so great a knowledge, my son, they
must perish soon, unto the fulfilling of the prophecies which were
spoken by the prophets, as well as the words of our Savior
himself.”
Moroni 8:30-34 [Mormon to his Son]
Repentance, Baptism, Commandments
“You must repent and be baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ; for all men must
repent and be baptized, and not only
men, but women; and children who have
arrived to the years of accountability.
And now, after that you have received
this, you must keep my commandments
in all things.”
DC 16:6d-7a
Commandments
“Keep my commandments; hold your
peace; appeal unto my Spirit; yea, cleave
unto me with all your heart, … Behold
this is your work, to keep my
commandments; yea, with all your might,
mind, and strength; seek not to declare
my word, but first seek to obtain my word
and then shall your tongue be loosened.”
DC 10:9-10a
Commandments
“Keep my commandments continually, and a crown of
righteousness thou shalt receive. And except thou do
this, where I am thou canst not come. And verily, verily
I say unto you, that this is my voice unto all. Amen.”

“… but unto him that keepeth my commandments, I will
give the mysteries of my kingdom, and the same shall
be in him a well of living water, springing up unto
everlasting life.”

2. teach the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; and to another
3. exceeding great faith; and to another, the
4. gifts of healing by the same Spirit. And again, to another, that he may
5. work mighty miracles; and again, to another, that he may
6. prophesy concerning all things; and again, to another, the
7. beholding of angels and ministering spirits; and again, to another,
8. all kinds of tongues; and again, to another, the
9. interpretation of languages and divers kinds of tongues.
And all these gifts come by the Spirit of Christ; and they come unto every
man severally, according as he will … and that all these gifts of which I
have spoken, which are spiritual, never will be done away, even as long
as the world shall stand, only according to the unbelief of the children of
men.”
Moroni 10:10-14
Spiritual Gifts cont’d …
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For
to one is given by the Spirit the
1. word of wisdom; to another the
2. word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another
3. faith by the same Spirit; to another the
4. gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the
5. working of miracles; to another
6. prophecy; to another
7. discerning of spirits; to another
8. divers kinds of tongues; to another the
9. interpretation of tongues;
But all these worketh that one and the self-same Spirit, dividing to every
man severally as he will.”

Church History Vol. 1 11:261
Friday, January 4, 1833, he wrote Mr. N. E. Seaton, editor of a paper
published at Rochester, New York, from which letter we make the following
extract:- "And now I am prepared to say by the authority of Jesus Christ, that
not many years shall pass away before the United States shall present such
a scene of bloodshed as has not a parallel in the history of our nation;
pestilence, hail, famine, and earthquakes will sweep the wicked of this
generation from off the face of the land, to open and prepare the way for the
return of the lost tribes of Israel from the north country. The people of the
Lord, those who have complied with the requisitions of the new covenant,
have already commenced gathering together to Zion, which is in the State of
Missouri; therefore I declare unto you the warning which the Lord has
commanded me to declare unto this generation, remembering that the eyes
of my Maker are upon me, and that to him I am accountable for every word I
say, wishing nothing worse to my fellow men than their eternal salvation;
therefore, 'fear God and give glory to him, for the hour of his judgment is
come.' Repent ye, repent ye, and embrace the everlasting covenant, and flee
to Zion before the overflowing scourge overtake you, for there are those now
living upon the earth whose eyes shall not be closed in death until they see
all these things, which I have spoken, fulfilled. Remember these things; call
upon the Lord while he is near, and seek him while he may be found, is the
exhortation of your unworthy servant, JOSEPH SMITH, JR."
Book of Mormon Covenant …
“And your minds in times past have been darkened

under this condemnation until they repent and
remember the new covenant, even the Book of
Mormon and the former commandments, which I have
given them, not only to say, but to do according to that
which I have written”

Simply Stated …
Jesus said unto him, "Thou shalt love the
Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is
the first and great commandment. And
the second is like unto it; Thou shalt love
thy neighbor as thyself. On these two
commandments hang all the law and the
prophets."

shall return to the land of their inheritances and build up the waste places of Zion; for after
much tribulation, as I have said unto you in a former commandment, cometh the blessing.
3b Behold, this is the blessing which I have promised after your tribulations, and the
tribulations of your brethren; your redemption, and the redemption of your brethren; even their
restoration to the land of Zion, to be established, no more to be thrown down;

sanctified in the flesh, that they were holy, and that the

Spirit is truth: truth abideth and hath no end; and if it
be in you it shall abound. And if your eye be single to
my glory, your whole bodies shall be filled with light,
and there shall be no darkness in you, and that body
which is filled with light comprehendeth all things.
Therefore, sanctify yourselves that your minds
become single to God, and the days will come that you
shall see him: for he will unveil his face unto you, and
it shall be in his own time, and in his own way, and
according to his own will.”

7:12-22)
“Infallible Proofs” by Alvin Knisley
“Yea, verily I say unto you, lift up your heads and rejoice, for the day
is dawning when I shall come to take up my abode with you and
reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. I will carry out my work,
saith the Spirit; I will redeem Israel, and the time shall not be long
when the Temple shall be built, yea in this generation it shall
come to pass, and my glory shall rest upon it, and I will redeem
my people. They shall be endowed with power from on high and
go forth to the nations of the world and proclaim my gospel to
those now sitting in darkness, and they shall lift up their heads
and rejoice and come to Zion with songs of everlasting joy. And
verily I say unto you, those from the north are preparing
themselves to come and meet with you upon this sacred spot,
upon this spot which I have dedicated unto myself, saith the
Spirit. Amen.”

Prophecy by John Weston
given at Independence, Missouri, on April 10, 1912
“Verily, this is the word of the Lord, that the city New
Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the Saints,
beginning at this place, even the place of the temple,
which temple shall be reared in this generation [within
100 years after the redemption of Zion]; for verily, this
generation shall not all pass away until an house shall
be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it,
which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which
shall fill the house.”
DC 83:2
Sanctification and the complete Endowment will come
once men can enter and see the Lord in His temple.
Further Clarifying about the temple ...
“And inasmuch as my people build an house unto me, in the name of
the Lord, and do not suffer any unclean thing to come into it, that
it be not defiled, my glory shall rest upon it;
yea, and my presence shall be there, for I will come into it, and all
the pure in heart that shall come into it, shall see God: but if it be
defiled I will not come into it, and my glory shall not be there, for I
will not come into unholy temples.
And now, behold, if Zion do these things, she shall prosper and
spread herself and become very glorious, very great, and very
terrible;
and the nations of the earth shall honor her, and shall say, Surely
Zion is the city of our God; and surely Zion can not fall, neither be
moved out of her place, for God is there, and the hand of the Lord
is there, and he hath sworn by the power of his might to be her
salvation, and her high tower”

Israel departs Egypt 2628 according to Inspired Version of the
Bible years given in Genesis
Using 1250 BC for Israel departing Egypt means
Messiah came 3878 in absolute year terms
Since Christ came in the meridian of time, the
Earth then lasts 7756 absolute years
Subtracting 1000 for millennium leaves 6756 absolute years
Subtracting 3878 to switch to AD, means
Judgment of the Just is no later than 2878 AD

Joseph Smith III on Reorganization
“…Where was the Church during the lapse of time between the
disorganization and the reorganization? It was with the remnant
scattered abroad, who remained true to the principles first given
as the gospel of Christ and with any body of such remnant,
numbering six or more, under the pastoral charge of an elder,
priest, teacher, or deacon.”
Foundations of the Reorganization, CH 5:346; see also 5:52
“This conveys to us clearly that if the Melchisedek priesthood is
present in any of its offices, the right to organize, or to reorganize;
the power to establish, build up, and confirm all the church are
there; and, if directed by command of God, to perform all the work
necessary.”
Foundations of the Reorganization, CH 5:348
Joseph Smith III on Reorganization
“It is a well-known and long established principle in law, both
ecclesiastic and secular, that where a church, or a number of
believers have become members of a recognized body, having a
name and a confession of belief, and rules of organization and
procedure, no change can be made in confession of faith, or rules
of procedure, by which those rules and principles of faith are
denied, reversed, changed, or abandoned, against the wish,
knowledge, and consent of the membership. And if any number
of such body, those persons thus remaining true to the original
faith are, and of right ought to be held to be the original body, or
church. This is good law and is plain common sense. It agrees
with the revelation of God to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints, given May, 1829:-‘And now, behold whosoever is of
my church and endureth of my church to the end, him will I
establish on my Rock, and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against him [Doc. & Cov. 3:17].’”
