Rationale
 When students submit their assignments via
Chalk & Wire, the next step is for the assignments
to be assessed (on Chalk & Wire) by the
appropriate Education faculty members.
 Assessments of assignments on Chalk & Wire
are essential to the continued reaccreditation of the
Salem State College’s School of Education by
the Department of Education (DOE), as well as the
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher
Education (NCATE).

Assessment of Student Work
 Now that you have created student groups for
your course(s), you need to communicate to your
students in your course(s) of what assignment(s)
need to be submitted to you via Chalk & Wire.
 It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that your
students submit work to you on Chalk & Wire before
you assess their assignment(s).
 When you are ready to assess student work that
has been submitted, you need to first log onto Chalk
& Wire, and then click on the “My Assessments”
tab.

Manual Assessments
 Sometimes it might be necessary to
perform a manual assessment if a student
has not submitted assignments via Chalk &
Wire.
 PPAs (Preservice Performance
Assessments) and SIOPs (Sheltered
Instruction Observation Protocols) are
usually manual assessments.
 Manual assessments are performed
ONLY for students who have not (or for
some reason, cannot) submit work via
Chalk & Wire.
