o In UTF-8, characters encoded w/ variable number of bytes,

o 10 ASCII chars: (1 byte = 1 char),
o 5 accentuated chars: (2 bytes = 1 char),
o 3 Asian ideograms: (3 bytes = 1 char).
Genero v2.50 uses ‘char’ length semantics.
o DEFINE var CHAR(10)-- 10 characters, automatic storage,
o Stores 10 characters in any language/character set.
