in general, you can choose the courses that you
are interested in. If your home universities want
you to choose specific courses to valid your
semester, you have to follow their guidelines
students are normally requested to obtain 30
ECTS per semester
usually, you only get credit points for a course if
you pass an exam or write a term paper
if you have problems or questions, please come
and see us during our office hours or write us an
email
9
you can find the courses in our eVV (elektronisches
Vorlesungsverzeichnis): http://evv.uni-giessen.de/
There are different departments, e.g.:

write an exam at the end of the semester (if you
need the credits)
Ü = Übung ([language] practice): you’ll probably
have to do a written test during and / or at the end
of the semester, sometimes you’ll have to do a
presentation

writing term papers // plagiarism
If you attend a seminar and need a mark and the
ECTS, you will probably have to write a term paper
Please note: Do not copy anything from the internet
or any literature without quoting it correctly! All
citations have to be quoted correctly. Copying a text
without quoting its source is plagiarism. Plagiarism
is cheating, consequence: 0 points (=fail)
You are expected to use scientific literature for a
term paper, if you do not know how or where to
find it or how to quote correctly, please ask your
teachers
15
prolongation & transcript of
records
16
if you have been nominated only for winter term but
you wish to study at Giessen for two semesters, you
can extend your stay
we need a confirmation of your home coordinator

17
at the end of your studies at JLU, you will get a
transcript of records with your marks and ECTS
for all of your courses that are not in FlexNow, you
should hand us in the teacher’s certificate/confirmation with your mark (by email or in printed form)
if you leave Giessen before you know all of your marks,
please ask the teachers to send them to us
before you leave the hall of residence, a caretaker will
have a look at your room. If everything is ok, he will
give you a paper that you’ll have to show the Studentenwerk to get back your security deposit. If you leave
on a weekend, you should go and see the Studentenwerk until Friday, 12 o’clock.
