What is a Major Incident?
Well a major incident is the same as a Disaster.
It is a extreme event which causes large scale death or damage to an environment.
It also requires the Emergency services to employ big scale response to deal with it.
Definition
An event or situation which threatens serious damage to human welfare , the environment of a place or war and terrorism which threatens serious damage to the UK .
It is a emergency which demands special arrangements by the emergency services.
Major Incident and an Emergency Situation 7/7 Attacks in 2005.
This event was a major incident.
• Mass Casualties/Serious Damage • Risk to the security of the UK.
• Mass disruption to Transport and Utilities.
• Big mobilisation of the emergency services and involved lots of different agencies.

Group Work
Divide up into Groups of Three.
(Use the Resources Provided.) I want you to think of different types of major incidents according to the definition.
Think about three examples that you can think of a major incident in the UK in the last ten years and why?
