 Hi everyone and welcome back!!

 Today we are going to have introduction lesson to Unit 15, which we will be doing up until Christmas!

 Well it is actually an interesting unit.

What is a Major Incident?

 Well a major incident is the same as a Disaster.

 It is a extreme event which causes large scale death or damage to an environment.

 It also requires the Emergency services to employ big scale response to deal with it.

Definition

 An event or situation which threatens serious damage to human welfare , the environment of a place or war and terrorism which threatens serious damage to the UK .

 It is a emergency which demands special arrangements by the emergency services.

Major Incident and an Emergency Situation 7/7 Attacks in 2005.

This event was a major incident.

• Mass Casualties/Serious Damage • Risk to the security of the UK.

• Mass disruption to Transport and Utilities.

• Big mobilisation of the emergency services and involved lots of different agencies.

Group Work

 Divide up into Groups of Three.

(Use the Resources Provided.) I want you to think of different types of major incidents according to the definition.

Think about three examples that you can think of a major incident in the UK in the last ten years and why?
