Reason you wanted to be a volunteer:
ASQ 702 was not satisfying my needs as a member in 2002. Instead of complaining, I decided to do
something about it and make a difference. I wanted to turn the section around and prevent it from
disbanding and leaving hundreds of members stranded with no local ASQ section to advance their
knowledge and careers.
Best experience / most rewarding /memorable as a volunteer these past two years as Chair?
Working with my diverse staff on the Executive Board; seeing the impact we made to drastically change the
section around 180 degrees from previous years; hearing that our members are happy with the positive
changes we’ve made and that they appreciate our efforts; and presenting the awards to my team at the
recognition ceremony in June 2003 and 2004.
My Quality Quotes / Philosophies:
1) Quality is a way of life. It has to be a part of you. But the most important thing is the Quality of your life.
The quality time you spend with your family, friends and colleagues is the most valuable thing in life.
2) Know thy customer, Know thy customers needs, Satisfy thy customer.

Stephen currently lives in Whittier, CA, where he bought his first home in 2001. He was formerly living in
Glendale for most of his life. Stephen has a BS degree from CSULA, and is a 4.5+ year survivor of CML
Leukemia, after going through an Unrelated Bone Marrow Transplant at the City of Hope, in Duarte CA. He

Reason you wanted to be a volunteer?
I've always lived my life by the philosophy that you can't complain about things unless you are willing to take
the necessary steps to improve them.
Best experience / most rewarding /memorable as a volunteer this year?
It's rewarding to me each time I hear our members leaving positive feedback about how our section is
improving.
My Quality Quote / Philosophy:
Quality is a life altering decision. Once you begin to look at things with quality in your eyes, you begin to see
details you have never noticed before. After this clarity, it’s hard to just accept things for how they are. Your
life will always be filled with improvement.
