through the NIH (National Institutes of
Health) Revitalization Act.
What is INBRE? Continued
• The Congressional intent of the IDeA program
is to enhance geographical distribution of

capacity.
• The INBRE Summer Research Program is an
initiative within a multimillion dollar grant with

investigator.
Paycheck information

Responsible Conduct of Research
• The National Institute of Health requires individuals
funded by their grants to participate in responsible
conduct of research training. For the OK-INBRE
Undergraduate Summer Research Program, this is
accomplished through an online tool sponsored by the
University of Illinois’ Ethics CORE.
• Before May 13, you are required to complete module
1. It should take about one hour. You may stop in
the middle of a module, save it, and go back at a later
time.

Students assigned to OUHSC/OMRF can obtain 3 credit hours from
OUHSC. Students assigned to UCO and OU have the option of receiving
credit from OUHSC as well. Please note, we do not pay for mileage or
parking. To receive credit, all students must attend all the scheduled
activities at OUHSC. There are Friday enrichment sessions with guest
speakers that cover such topics as how to write an abstract, prepare a
scientific poster, and discussions on exciting new research. If you are
assigned to UCO or OU and want to receive credit from OUHSC, indicate
this on the orientation form.
If you are enrolled in the course and are a permanent resident, you will
need to provide your permanent residence card and naturalization
documents to Elsa Higuchi. She must view them personally.
If you are enrolled in the course and are a US citizen born outside of
the United States, Elsa will need to see a native born abroad birth
certificate. A copy of a certified birth certificate will be sufficient.
Insurance and Credit at OUHSC

The Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education require you to have health insurance if you are
enrolled in a course at OUHSC.
1. If you have insurance, provide your insurance card for us to copy.
2. If you don’t have insurance and want to purchase it, please contact me. I will let you
know once it is online and available to purchase.
3. If you do not have insurance and don’t want to purchase it, you can either sign the
waiver to still participate in the enrichment sessions with no credit at OUHSC, or you can
choose to not sign the waiver and not participate in enrichment sessions.
4. This last option is only for students who do not have insurance. Indicate on the
orientation form that you don’t have insurance but would like credit for the course at your
home institution. You will still have to sign the waiver to participate in the enrichment
sessions, but I will try and get you credit through your home school.
5. If you are an international student assigned to OUHSC and your home institution requires
you to enroll in a course at your home institution, then you can still participate in the
enrichment sessions at OUHSC without credit if you provide proof of insurance or sign the
waiver.

To enroll, you need to provide me your CWID. Please put your CWID
on the orientation form. I will forward this to Lyn Kent who will then
approve you to enroll. Once she has done that, you can enroll online or

Selected Topics in Biotechnology, CRN 30357.
When you enroll, payment must be made the same day or you must
sign up for the summer payment plan. Students who do not may be
dropped from classes each night. If this happens, the student can reenroll at least one time before a hold is placed on enrollment, requiring
student contact with TCC Advising to remove hold. Beginning in May, a
payment shopping cart will be part of the enrollment
process. The INBRE grant will reimburse you for the class.
