DEEP 1/2
1. Two halves - Deep enough & wide enough to cover receivers or potential in
an area defined by formation fild & flow.
2. Two flat zones - 12-14 yards deep and wide enough to cover
the widest eligible receiver to the sideline.
3. Two curl zones - 12-14 yards deep between the flat and
hook zone.
4. Two fades - 14-22 yards deep directly behind flat, extending through any
overlapping the outside 1/3.
5. Two hooks - 12- 14 yards deep from the head of the center to the outside
shoulder of a normally spaced 3rd man.
6. Hole - 15-22 yards deep behind both hooks.
It is important to realize that we will be unable to cover all 11 areas and still
maintain an effective forward wall. The important exceptions are the deep zone
which will be coveredevery down. The specific zone to be covered will be
determined by

3 DEEP SEAMS
Can't allow # 2 Receivers to run into these areas. Cover midpoints all double seam patterns, Depth & Divider, Corner can
squeeze as long as there is no threat of # 2 to seam or deep
cross.

M.O.F. DEFENDER
M.O.F. Safety must be able to cover this area from seam to seam if ball is thrown over 25
yards. If ball is thrown 18 yards or less he must cover hash mark to hash mark.
2 DEEP SEAMS
Safety should be able to cover this area in 2 deep coverages. Curl
players should keep butt at 45 degree angle and re-route #2
receiver into the seam at 10 yards depth. Do no allow #2 receiver
thru M.O.F.

located. Theyremain constant throughout the play and the corners playoff these in terms of
horizontal alignment and actual play.

DIVIDER PRINCIPLE
1. Pre-Snap know you could have 2 vertical threats
2. Eye control on QB / #2 / #1
3. Get 2 Verts = Get depth & go for the divider
4. Put butt into sideline & favor inside route
5. Play outside vert from top down
6. Depth is dependant on depth of the WR's

FUNNEL CONCEPT
FS
M.O.F.
Definition: Match Up coverage - Tight M/M coverage with MOF Safetywith a 3 on 2 funnel concept with the free
player becoming a "RAT." The funnel will be based on the backfield set and will become Cover 1 or Cover 9 in
nature. Treat all 1 backformations as Blue/Rocket adjust.

FIRE ZONE CONCEPT
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Not big enough to just line up & play
Get 8 into the Box quickly
Change the Bubble
Distort blocking schemes
Safe Pressure – Playing 3 Under / 3 Deep
Cancel all gaps Inside / Out
Bring 4 from a side – Overload protections
Make offense max protect; release 3 receivers into 6
cover men
ZONE BLITZ PRINCIPLES
1. 3 Deep / 3 Under - Always have a Hook #3 & two Wall Flat Defenders.
2. 5 Man Pressure.
3. LB is Hook to #3 player & is the adjuster vs. 2 open WR's. Weak when "HOOK" adjustment is on.
4. Corners have Deep 1/3 & Safeties have Deep Middle 1/3.
5. Re-route #2's & keep them out of seem area.
