LOCATION OF HLTC
• The HLTC is located at 26th km Kanakapura
Road, Somanahalli Gate, Bangalore – 560
082, Adjacent to POWERGRID 400 kv S/S.
• The campus is spread over an area of @ 57
acres.
• The campus consists of Administrative Block,
Hostel for Trainees, & Hangar for Vehicles
and Tools, Experimental Training yard,11 kv
HT Connection, Security Room, etc.

INFRASTRUCTURE
 Experimental Training Yard consisting of
Poles and Towers ranging from 11 kv to 400
kv.
 Imported Tools for carrying out Hot Line
Operations

 Tools for carrying out Hot Line Operations on
400 kv lines using Bare Hand Techniques.
 Ambulance in case of emergencies during
training in additions to conventional vehicles.
 Trainees’ Hostel with Guest Rooms, Separate
Kitchen and Dining Hall, Conference Hall
along with entertainment & recreational
facilities.

OBJECTIVE
• To Provide in-depth approach and technical
know-how for live line maintenance
• To highlight the importance of operation and
maintenance of HV and EHV Power Transmission
lines utilizing HOT STICK METHOD.
• To give an introduction to Bare Hand Techniques
of Live Line Maintenance

Phase of Training
The training duration is about 12 weeks &
conducted in Three phases.
First phase: Trainees will be taught about general
principles, theory and operations on cold lines
Second phase: Trainees will be trained in first aid
and tocarry out live line operations on charges lines.
Third phase: Trainees will be trained in L LMT on
commercial lines of KPTCL.

Expected level of the
Participants
The course is open to the Engineering and
Supervisory Staff and Linemen of State Electricity
Boards and Supply Undertakings,utilities;etc., engaged
in operation and maintenance of power lines having
adequate field experience. In addition the participants
should fulfill the Health & General requirements like
free from height phobia,arthritis,etc;

Essential Requirements
•INDEMINITY BOND
•All trainees should compulsorily execute an Indemnity
Bonds at the time of joining as the Hot Line work is rated
as a high risk job.
•No trainee will be admitted to the course, unless the bond
is executed.
•INSURANCE COVERAGE
•The sponsoring authorities should ensure providing
suitable insurance cover for their trainees. As per the
existing norms, the insured amount should be not less than
24 months gross salary of the trainee.

 The course is intended to have an insight to the
executives involved in Cold and Hot Line
Maintenance about potential of Hot Line Activities
on transmission lines and Sub Stations.

ELIGIBILITY
• Candidates should have already been
trained in Live Line Maintenance
Techniques up to 220 kv (Hot Stick
Method) conducted by HLTC, Bangalore.
• Should possess sound health and should
not suffer from height phobia, arthritis,
vision problems etc.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENT

subjected to stringent assessment - both
practical and objective.
• Only those who qualify in all the qualities
will be awarded with Certificates.
CLASS ROOMS
• Class Rooms are located in the
Administrative Block with state of the art
infrastructure such as
LAN,Computer,DVD, LCD projector etc.
• HLTC is making continuous efforts to
add latest equipment which can be of
immense importance in training.
HANGARS
•The Hangar consists of Vehicle
Sheds and tool stores.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT FOR
TRAINING
• HLTC has sufficient tools imported from
M/s. A.B. Chance & Co., USA to conduct
Hot Stick and Bare Hand Operations on
various lines.
• HLTC is making consistent efforts to
replace the obsolete tools with latest
tools.
• HLTC is making continuous efforts to
bring latest technology and equipment in
to its stores.
EXPERIMENTAL YARD
• The Experimental Training Yard consists of the
following facilities:
• 11 kv poles with Dead End and Cut points.
• 33 kv Towers Structures.
• 66 / 110 kv Towers (A type & D Type)
• 220 kv / 400 kv Towers (A type & D Type)
• Poles and Towers have various hardware
replicating actual work situations.
11 kv Switch Room
• HLTC is equipped with the facility to charge
the experimental lines with 11 kv supply.
• Separate provision exists along with cables
and GOS structures at Experimental Yard.
• During the Second Phase of Hot Stick
Method and Bare Hand Method training, the
experimental lines can be charged with the
11 kv supply.

Tata Sumo (Ambulance)
Maruti Ambulance for training requirements
Mahindra & Mahindra Jeep
32 seater Swaraj Mazda Bus for providing
transportation facilities to the trainees.
TRAINEE’S HOSTEL
•Trainees Hostel consists of 20 double rooms which
can accommodate 40 trainees.
•Five Guest Rooms.
•Kitchen and Dining Hall maintained in good
conditions.
•Conference Hall for conducting meetings.
•Entertainment facilities such as Shuttle Courts,
Volleyball court, Caroms, TV Room with cable
connection, News paper reading room, etc.
GUEST HOUSE
• HLTC has 2 No of VIP Guest House
with A/C and separate Dining Facilities
in the Trainees’ Hostel.
• In addition 3 ordinary Guest Rooms with
attached bath room are also available.
SECURITY
• Campus is provided with Round the
Clock Security.
• Incoming phone facility for Hostel
inmates.
• Transportation facility (Ambulance) to
the trainees in case any emergency.
