• Run game gets stuffed • Loosen up run pressure • They’re daring you to throw • Defenses get better at stopping DW run game 1

DW YOUTH PASSING PACKAGE

Create a plan to implement a BASIC PASSING GAME bit-by-bit: • Kids of all ages can throw the football; • Pick the right kid and coach-up his skills; • Start on Day #1 and reserve some practice time for your passing; • Same with receivers - identify who can catch and then develop these players as receivers; • QB drills - handling the ball - footwork drills - passing; • Receiver work - catching balls - running routes; • allot just a few minutes each day, maybe at the end of practice, to work passing game;

6

• Encourage QBs & receivers to work on their own, too.

CONE BREAK DRILL CONES 10 YARDS APART B A D C R R R 1. From Point A approach each cone and plant outside foot (here Right foot) and make 90 degree cut. Continue at ecah cone to point of beginning. [Red Line]. 2. Move to Point B and repeat, running the cones and the breaks the other way. 3. From Point C (Green Line) run diagonally across box to opposite corner, making 45 degree cut at diagonal corner, then 90 degree cut, back to start. 4. From Point D (Blue Line) - run to middle cone and make a 90 degree break to sideline. Work cuts both R & L. Then work to make 45 degree cuts back to the corners. 5. Can also make 45 degree cuts to upper corners, too. 9

SITTING RECEIVER DRILL 8 - 10 YARDS R R 1. Receivers sit facing in pairs about 8-10 yards apart. Toss soft passes to each other at about chin level. Sitting makes them use their hands more. 2. After about 5-10 passes each, each receiver rotates 90 degrees clockwise and repeats passes. 3. Next each receiver turns 180 degrees clockwise and repeats. 4. Last, the receivers turn backs to each other and one throws soft overhead to the other. Receiver turns and returns the overhead. 5. Have them work proper hand position fundamentals on each reception, catching with hands arms extended, putting ball away before making the return pass.

TIGHT 290

C E B T F B N T B E C

1st of three digits designates throw to the right or left. "1" indicates a throw to the left; 2 means QB throw right. Middle digit = "90" series or 3 step drop series. Third digit indicates route of widest receiver. Inside receiver (here TE) must remember his route. 20

TIGHT 292

C E B T F B N T B E C

Here outside receiver runs a "2" route (3-step slant). Inside receiver runs a complimentary route - an immediate flat. Note flat route gains no depth until after catch.

21

TIGHT 294

C E B T F B N T B E C

Here outside receiver runs a "4" route - 10 yards back to 8 yards insidse. Inside receiver runs an Arrow or Shoot Route. Widest receivers run mirror routes on either side.

22

TIGHT 299

C E B T F B N T B E C

Here outside & inside receiver each run 9 routes. The QB may have to shuffle a bit after 3 step drop for timing purposes to allow receivers to gain down-field depth.

24

LOOSE or SPREAD 290

F C E B T B N T B E C

The Spread look forces the defense to expand out of necessity. The routes are the same as in Tight. 25

LOOSE or SPREAD 292

F C E B T B N T B E C

The complemetary routes of the outside & inside receiver place the CB in conflict. The OLB has to cover well for this to be stopped. 26

LOOSE or SPREAD 294

F C E B T B N T B E C

The CB cannot cover the 2 receivers. The Arrow provides a perfect balance for the inside breaking 4 route.

27

LOOSE or SPREAD 299

F C E B T B N T B E C

The GO routes have the SE up the sideline (rail) and the inside receiver running a GO in the seam area.

28

LOOSE or SPREAD 290 Z TURN

F C C E B T B N T B E

This is ONE STEP pass - a quick step and pass to the Z receiver who turns to the QB right away. The Inside receiver attacks the playside CB immediately 29

SPRINTOUT PASSING PACKAGE

31

SPRINTOUT (full sprint) 1. QB opens to 5 o'clock to playside; 2. Second step is a crossover step; 3. QB continues to gain Depth & W idth at the same time; 4. QB rounds off at about 6 yards at width of C gap; 5. QB continues to attack LOS; 6. Throw can be made anytime after rounding off; 7. Throw on the run.

32

SPRINTOUT PROTECTION V OFFENSIVE LINE HINGE ("Worm") PROTECTION • Pivot on ball of Playside Foot • Swing butt hard to playside • Shuffle toward backfield, knees bent & balanced • Block nearest defender to cross your face • Drive/Ride defender deep & away from QB 33

B BACK'S ARC PATH TO DE E • FB Takes an "arc" (rounded) path to block the DE; • FB wants to gain width on the DE and hit him square; • FB wants to prevent DE crossing his face to get to QB; • One solid contact is usually enough to allow QB to run his sprint path 34
