Y12:
External exam in Y12 May/June ONLY
for students completing at AS level
All other Y12 students sit an internal exam to:
• Show progress
• Consolidate Y12 learning
• Provide a basis for predicted grades
Y13:
A level is assessed solely through exams in June 2017
N.B. Students must pass the internal Y12 exam to
continue to Y13!

Three modules:
all achievable at Pass, Merit, Distinction
Meeting deadlines is crucial!
Students MUST apply in advance for an extension if
there is a genuine reason why they will not be able to
 BTEC Certificate (= 1 AS level)
Y13:
Three further modules
 BTEC Subsidiary diploma (= 1 A level)
Going Forward into Y12:
What will we do?
 Explain to students from the start – and often - what the assessment
arrangements are for each subject
 Help students understand and make decisions about assessment
 Assess students regularly in each subject to track their progress
 Review progress with student, parents and teachers at
Parents Evening in February
 Make Sixth Form Advisor support and mentoring available
Going Forward into Y12:
What can students do?
 Have a good break after their GCSEs!
 Complete their Transition Summer work well
 Use the summer for some initial research: Fast Tomato, UCAS,
University Open Days, work experience or shadowing
 Start the year prepared – folders, dividers, diary/smartphone,
resources…….
 Plan how they will manage their time from the start
