1) Where SHOULD I keep the emergency number?



A: in the file sent by the director of student affairs with
acceptance material ✖
If it is an emergency it means you need direct access,
imagine you need to go home, open your computer, find
the mail you received and open the right document …
B: in my cell phone ✔ then you just need to dial.
C: on the documents given to me during the orientation
meeting ✖
Do you carry those documents with you all the time?



A: a valid passport ✖
You already have one, otherwise you wouldn’t be in
France.
B: a Parisian address ✖
Even if you have given the MICEFA address, you can
get a plan
C: a French bank account ✔
So every month, they can take the monthly payment
out of your account automatically



I buy a Navigo Pass for the month or the week if I stay
less than a month (forfait Navigo Mois ou Semaine) ✔
So you can adjust your payment to your need
I buy a Imagine R Pass (Forfait imagine R for students)
✖
Since it is a year plan you will continue to pay even if
you are back home
I buy a ticket every time I use public transportation ✖
it could be a solution only if you decide to stay in your
room all the time but you would have to report to your
home university



My friends and I find the Noctilien (night bus) that
takes us to the one who is closest to where we are. ✔
it is nice to end the night safely all together.
My friends and I take the metro that takes us to the
one who has the biggest place. ✖
Metro and trains do not run at that time in the night
Everybody uses the regular bus or metro they use
every day. ✖
First they do not run at night and second it is safer to
stay together.



By simply plugging it into the available plug ✖
No way you can plug it in without ruining the plug
and the appliance (so to get in trouble with the
landlord)
By using an adapter. ✖
You may be able to plug it in but this is the best
way to burn your hairdryer.
By using a converter (French 220V to 110V) ✔
which you can find in specific stores like BHV



A: French health insurance 
It does not cover me entirely and if I go to the hospital it
might be pretty expensive (see the reimbursement rate)
B: my home health insurance 
It is good in terms of coverage but it is not accepted by
the French government.
C: a combination of French and my home health insurance

Between the ages of 20 and 28, the French government
has made it mandatory to enroll into a national student
health insurance that covers the basics.



A: www.lmde.com ✖
This is a link to get your Carte Vitale that says you pay
for social security

This is one of the many websites to find adds about
sharing, renting, … (une piaule is the slang word for a
place to live)
C: www.voyages-sncf.com ✖
this is the website to use to travel by train when you
visit other parts of France.



A: My income tax return ✖
As a student, you are not applying for residency and/or
a working visa so you do not need to show that you are
a good citizen.
B: Proof of home address ✖
Again they are not interested in your life in your home or
host country.
C: ID pictures ✔
They need to match the picture on your passport with the
person applying for the permit.


A: the United Kingdom ✖
Even though the UK is in Europe, they are not part of the
Schengen area, hence you need your Visa Long Séjour
(student residency permit) in order to reenter France
B: Slovenia ✔
Slovenia is a recent European Union member but it joined
the Schengen area immediately.
C: Turkey ✖
Even though they have been trying to join the European
Union for quite a while, they haven’t been accepted yet so
the same as the UK applies for Turkey.


In the Welcome Packet p. 22; ✔
You can find the name, address and phone number of
doctors and even their domain if they are specialists.
In the phone directory ✖
Even if you use the yellow pages, it does not say if the
doctor speaks English or only French.
Using the website www.allo-medecins.fr ✖
The same can be said of this website (you will only find
the doctor’s address, phone number and may be their
domain if they are specialists)

If you have 10 right answers, it means you decided to
prepare your stay in France and that you have covered
all aspects of your life during that time.
If you have between 7 and 9 right answers, it means
that you were prepared but there are pieces of
information you still need to verify by reading your
welcome packet.
If you have 6 right answers or below, you better use the
welcome packet as your bedtime reading otherwise you
will be asking us questions you do not need to.
