Poetry by the Class of 2018
The Clearing
Tim O’Meara
The sun shining on a small white clearing
The ice on the tree branches
Creating beams of glass
And the white snow covering everything
Like a sparkling, glittering shell
A snowman stands alone in the clearing
The only shape in the patch of white
He stands and smiles, unmoving
Content with the beauty
Of the small white clearing
Midnight Storm
By Riley Arthur
Jack Frost breaks in and steals the warmth
He brings his army and unleashes the swarm
The bitter soldiers are winning the war
Get out of bed to see the worst
The burglar has left open the front door
Run outside to see him sprinting away
Hopefully this will turn out okay
The clouds are black seas trying to drown me
My power has burst and now I am frowning
After puddles of water splashed onto my head
I sit by the fire and then go to bed
Finally now, the day is done
Wishing to wake up to a summery sun
Snow War
By Waleed Ansari
As I stand here,
While the frozen winds claw at me
I notice the pond start to thaw
I note to steer clear
I hear Jack Frost whistle in the distance
Suddenly, the snow missile hits the ground
I ran as though it was a war
Grenades were tossed,
Bullets were shot,
I ran to the barricade that was my house
I watched the explosives fly
From the safety of my window
A Winter's Night
By Krystal Bagnaschi
The wind is a wolf
Howling in the moonlight
An unforgiving cold seeps into our home
It chills our bones
Jack Frost nips at our toes
The frigid air reddens our noses
Snowflakes are whipping in the wind
The whole house shivers
So do we
It is a winter’s night
The cold does not fill us with glee
Winter Activities
By Will Hubbard
Confidently getting pushed by my dad
Down Regional’s hill
Speeding off a jump
Flying in mid-air
Coming to a stop
Gliding on the ice
Keeping control of the puck
Getting checked into the wall
Losing a tooth
Taking the puck back
Scoring a goal
Making snowballs
Having fun
Throwing it in the air
Hoping it reaches my friend
Before his hits me
Coming Home
By Wyatt Reller
From the fluffy whiteness at my feet
To the icy bitterness of the mountain peak
My face is frigid with ice and snow
How I wish I could leave this endless seek
As the artic winds shriek and blow
I can almost taste my mom’s hot cocoa
And the smell of fresh roasted chestnuts
But for now I continue to go
As I walk along, Tripping in the ruts
I think of Uncle Joe's old mutts
And the feast where we'll stuff our guts
And the feast where we'll stuff our guts
Winter Trees
Ava Christensen
The snow is crisp beneath my feet
The wind whistles and blows flakes into my
face
I'm in a tornado of white, cold and frosty
But then it stops at the forest’s edge, the
trees protect me
Giants tower over me
Their frosty boughs swing low
Egging me to play under their snowy feet
Their arms outstretched to welcome me into
their snowy fortress
The forest is a cup of cocoa
Cinnamon sticks stretching out of the
ground
Marshmallows piling up high all around
Comforting me from the cold
Winter Thaw
By Alex Lundgren
Snowy skiing slops
Heavy, slushy snow
Cold, wintery air
Dirty, sloppy streets
Grey, foggy skies
Sparks flying from racing snow plows
Slippery, icy walkways
Morning comes wet and warm
Where has the snow gone?
Warm, windy skies
Trees sway back and forth
Birds flying, chirping away
Winter Wonderland Blast
By Devon Juliano
Snow falls like a white
Blanket
Covering the earth
Sparkly trees
Ice cream cones hang from your roof
Snowballs fly
Like cars on a highway
Playing
Sledding
Snow angels
Are born
Hot cocoa drips
Down your mouth
Like delicate rain drops
All gone
Running, dodging, avoiding ice chunks.
Demolishing my friends snow fort.
Destroying, humiliating, eliminating my enemies.
Whizzing, zooming, flying past my face.
My cover is thin, I’m running low.
I have to run. I can’t stay here
I sprint to a tree, using it as my new cover.
Smack! I get my opponent right in the face!
We go inside, gasping for air.
Making hot chocolate, we retire for the day.
The Snow Day
By Brady Warner
Crystals
Hanging off the trees
Pine needles
Pilled to our feet’s
Icicles
Hanging off shingles
The cold makes us tingle
Trees whistling
Snow drizzling
Thundering winds
Now snow to shins
Winds slowing down
Snow all around
Kids come out to play
It’s a wonderful Snow Day!
Winter Sports
By Chad Closson
Freezing in Maine
While snowboarding down mount Katahdin
Falling the whole way down
Shivering in Alaska
Snowmobiling ‘til dark
Frostbite after riding
Freezing next to a fire
Ice fishing on a big lake in Canada
Reeling in a submarine of a bass
Flying around
Ice skating on a small pond
Going one hundred miles per hour
Rick's
By Daniel Bazzano
In a Ford Exploder
Plowing with my uncle
Starting the cars
Puffs of grey everywhere
Rapping in the truck
Pop the clutch
Hitting trees
Joking on the C.B
Tapping on the dash
Flashing lights at deer
Coffee on my mind
My uncle just so kind
Smelling diesel with a hint of French Vanilla
We’re just a couple of pretty grand fellas
By Isabella Martinez
~Winter Time~
Skiing is a dance, the mountain leads
Gliding down the snowy hills
Exhilaration going through my body
Nice cool air relaxes my inner soul
Every step I take, is a breath I tame
Frostbite and ice burn awakens me
But the end is near for Spring to appear.
Blank Canvas
By Faith
Turner
A white canvas
Waiting patiently for and artist
Ravishing colors sleeping
Staying hidden from the world
Although others will try
To darken the canvas
Leaving it torn and tattered
But patches stay
Keeping it brighter
And ever-so glistening
On the winter blanket
Winter Amusement
By Elizabeth Wexler
Sledding down Regional's hill
Flying so fast
I'm on Mount Washington
Wind whipping my hair
Snow traveling to my face
About to go over a jump
Smiling
Super psyched
Cruising over the hill
Safely at the bottom
Winter Skating
By Haley Kacmarcik
Gliding through
Gacial gust
Winds nipping at my face
Lightly touching frozen water
Frigid air biting my toes
Sailing on crystal patch
Laughing, falling having a blast
Falling in snow
Soft like whipped cream
Dressed in layers
Laced up skates
Blades like knives
Grins and merriment
White snow
Leafless trees
Frozen air
Cloudy days
Icicles fall off the houses
Snowballs fly through the air
People buried in snow forts
The neighborhood in a battle
Neighbors riding down the hill
Friends blocking snowball with sleds
Dogs charge at people and lick faces
A great battle
BMX FOR LIFE
By Andrey Zhovklyy
I drop down the half pipe.
Holding my grips really tight.
I hit the ramp.
My bike spins and I tuck.
I throw my hands out.
Then quickly put my hands into place.
I land with the spin.
I hear clapping from my friends.
Feeling proud of myself, I ride away.
Last Week O’ Winter
By Liam Smith
Covering the ground, graffiti on a paper
Devouring trees, hurricane Katrina
In a few days turns into water vapor
Shoveling a gargantuan street
Soon all about to go away, poof
Shivering while snow’s between my feet
Being blinded by sparkling snow, Sightless
Snow Suit worn wet
All gone no more mess
Making sure heat’s set
twirling back and forth, ballerina
Breaking icicles off the roof butt hole
Winter Stroll
By Adrian Delacruz
Crunchy footprints in the snow
Imprints left behind
Nose red
Like good old Nick
Bald trees
Whooshing through the wind
Snowmen staring with their cold eyes
Trickling snow
Falling on my face
Sharp icicles
Hanging from the trees
Home sweet home
Far away
Flames reflection

Arctic Winter
By Dylan Thomson
Crystal icicles dangling off my roof
Waterfall dripping down my shirt
Frosty as a popsicle
Clanging chimes in the vicious wind when hit
Cracking of dead branches falling from trees
Marvelous white blanket covers the Earth as far as I can see
Smell of pine covers me
As I skid through the brisk cold air
Hot Embers
By Kyly Milton
The fire crackles with warmth
Red and orange lick the mud bricks
Crispy marshmallows burn with flame
They sizzle and sink into hot chocolate
Crystal flakes of snow fall gracefully down,
Adding to the frozen tundra.
Not a sliver of sun peeks through the milky sky
Bare trees shiver in a blanket of snow
My eyes grow heavy as I slip into sleep
When I awake, red embers sizzle in the fireplace.
The ice of the frozen tundra holds me captive
it wraps me in it's cold dead fingers.
Thick tendrils of fog curl around the iceberg that is my Home.
Floating Flakes flutter and sink into the white river
Winter to Me
by William KOMONS
Nostrils tingle
Temperatures drop
Adults complain
Children laugh
Wind whistles
Snow falls
Hot cocoa cools
Fires crackle
And that’s
Winter to me.
Hibernation
by Nolyn Teeling

Baring their mussels in slush
Jumping over snow banks

Birds gather bedding
Bundle up their feathers
For the hibernation to come
BY Caitlyn LaRosa
White snowflakes gather slowly
Chilling frost freezing winds
Fast wind breaking branches
Crazy snowmobiles speeding by
Happy snowmen sit watching

A Glacial Winter
By Maya Masangkay
Snowflakes falling from the sky
Glistening against the winter ground
Crystals hanging from the trees
People having chattering teeth
Breathing heavy as can be
Shivering in the ice and cold
People hovering together with blankets
Drinking hot cocoa
Winter breeze gives us chills to
Our backs and to our toes
Spending time outside in winter
Makes you feel wintry
Quick Olympians
By David Desrosiers
Fast Olympians bobsledding quickly
Professional skiers flying high
Athletic snowboarders racing wildly
Awesome snowmobilers riding crazily
Gigantic snow plows plowing efficiently
Secure snow forts covering perfectly
Olympic skaters spinning violently
Young sledders competing frantically
Crackle crackle
I wake up to hear
Wrapping paper crumbling,
Laughing and gasping for joy.
It must be that one day, Christmas.
I look outside to see
Neighborhood children playing
With their new toys.
I look at their wide smiles,
Wishing everyday were like this
As I sit down
With a nice cup of Hot Chocolate,
I glance at the marvelous Christmas tree
And say to myself
"Oh Christmas, you're finally here."
The Wonderful Winter
By Kiera Lawlor
White fog covering,
Snow building higher and higher,
Arctic weather,
Bitter as Antarctica!
Icicles hanging,
Dripping away,
Snow is falling,
Thick as clay!
Falling gently,
Beautiful white woods,
Silent and deep,
Quiet as sleeping houses.
Warm houses,
Delicious hot chocolate,
Toasty warm toes,
Staring.
Frozen Winter
BY Travis Macdonald
Goofy snowman melting away
Melting icicles hanging down
Slippery ice freezing up
Young kids playing
Young adults driving
Frozen trees slanting
Bright sun reflecting on snow
The Amazing Race
By Waylon Wylie
Braap, braap coming down
the straight
Can I beat him?
All my blood rushes to my
head
How can I pass him?
I rush to the turn
He’s pulling away
Shifting up, I catch him
Thump, he slips
It’s my time to capitalize
I got it, I got it
Two more laps to go and
I’m in the lead
Squeak! Crumble! Crash!
My engine blew up
Seasons
Change
By: Azelia Graves
Doors shut
I threw away the key
But I will soon smell the sweet and sour smell of summer raspberries
The
Barely surviving
Not enough food
But can you imagine the things I must have had to do?
Wait
It’s an everlasting cucumber melon taste on my blouse
I’m stuck here now cleaning my blouse with creepy snowman watching me in my house
Because of Jack Frost
by Jon Shean
Because of Jack Frost
Dark
Wet
Ice
Snowmen everywhere
White
Black plow trucks clearing roads
Frozen lakes for skating
Wind as cold Jack Frost’s heart
Icicles as pointy as his ears
Clouds pelting the earth with hail
Night is getting longer
All because of Jack Frost.
The Walk through Spring
By Derek Gagnon
As I'm walking through the blistering winds
Snow is falling on my head
My head gets wet
I go to a tree to dry off
All of a sudden the bright sun comes out
While it starts to be the beginning of spring
Windy Winter
By Jordan Brugmann
BOOM! As the wind blows the window
I cuddle on my couch
Shivering cold with a blistering wind
Misty and foggy wind
It’s a foggy windy night
Sitting by the TV
Watching a scary movie
Drinking hot chocolate
I finish my drink
I must go to bed
It’s a foggy windy night
Winter Days
By Michael Lamere
Winter, cold as ice
Cold days snowing frequently
White snow falling around me
Fluffy snow piling up
Green trucks plow slowly
Slushy sidewalks freezing quickly
Slippery ice people falling down
Warm spring coming soon
Snowfall
By Zane Catena
The freezing winter air
The sharp prickly breeze that is difficult to bear
And yet children are playing and frolicking with cheer
And it seems that finally winter time is here
There is snow everywhere on the house and the roof
But if you don't believe me look outside for some proof
There are snowflakes falling from the winter sky
Have a wonderful winter to all. Farewell and goodbye
I'm off to my house for some cookies and milk
Them I’m going to bed with my blanket made of silk.

Winter Fun
By Abigail Passini
Kids gliding across the ice,
Laughing and falling,
Delighted and smiling,
A happy fairytale,
There’s a sparkle in their eyes.
Sledding down hills,
Giggling and racing,
Screaming with joy,
With frost bitten noses,
Dimples in their rosy red cheeks,
Fun in the winter.
Sledding With Friends
By Austin Smith
Up the hill we go
Leaving footprints in the snow
It seems like forever so
Faster and faster we go
We finally make it to the top and
Then we set ourselves to go
With our sleds in tow, we line up in a row
We fall onto them ready to roll
One, Two, Three…we fly down the hill
Over bumps and spots of ice
When we stop at the bottom
We have smiles on our faces
Its time to climb to the top and do it all again
all the people enjoy the winter
Snow Blizzard
By Jade Bell
What a sight
All I see is white
I am so cold I feel so old
Icicles are upside down flowers
Cold showers of melted snow drip on me
Snow falls from the sky like rain
Hohoho! Santa’s reindeer go through the snow
It’s a dark and snowy night
Hurry up before the day comes
Sledding seems just like
Its bedding when you fall off your sled
The ground is so low for the snowflakes to flutter
To the ground like small gentle butterflies
High in the sky.

Hibernation
By Cole Lacey
Hibernating in my blankets
Waiting until the next day
So that I could go outside
Have fun and play
When I get up in the morning
I look outside and it is snowing
When I go outside the wind is blowing
When the days over I go to bed snoring
And when I wake up in the morning
It is still snowing
Winter Cheer is Here
By Alexandria Schmidt
Winter can be cold
Winter can be white
It may even cause some fright
The layers of white
Can be a beautiful sight
Kids take out their sleds
It is time for them to play
They laugh the night away
You can hear their childish giggles
Through the wispy night
Now that winter is here
It’s time for some holiday cheer
Presents are here and there
Presents are everywhere
Do you love the winter cheer?

Winter Day
By Matt Sokol
I wait all year
Waiting for it to get here
Winter
Although it’s really fun
There is no heat from the sun
So off to the slopes I go
All layered up with the family in toe.
Hitting the slopes with all kinds of hopes
That I can hit the big jump
Without landing on my rump
Off I go faster and faster
At least
I’m still afloat, with all kinds
Of hope.
I’d really be happier
Cruising on the lake
In a nice fast boat.
Winter Time
By Jaisun Chucta
I was out on the lake
My fish bait was fake
I was done with the rake
It's winter not fall
I didn't catch anything at all
All I got was a cold and I took Tylenol
So I hung my fishing pole on the wall
It's winter not fall after all
An Exciting Day
By Gavin Hernandez
Now that my confidence was found
I sledded down the snow mound
Almost tripping and falling
I managed to succeed
At the bottom,
No one was cheering
Instead, a snowball to the face
The cold, frigid, bitter feeling of wiping it off
I ran
And ran
Then stopped to enjoy the scenery
Half solid
Half liquid
White crystal lake
Gleaming with snow
Laid upon its surface
It looked as if it were a giant glacier
In the middle of a winter snow land
This time I could not afford a pit stop
Friends were closing in fast
Every second
Closer and closer

A Bitter Slide
By Victoria Cser
Sitting on my freezing sled
Sliding down snow as smooth as ice
Fingers numbing, teeth chattering
Wild breeze flying by
While I'm sledding down the hill
Snowflakes fall from a white sky
I slow down, CRASH
Into a bank of snow
Feet are stuck
I pull them out and stand back up
Dragging my sled
I walk the snowy deep mountains
To begin again
