Army Green Dress Uniform and
The Army Blue Uniform for
Enlisted Soldiers
Reference: AR 670-1
dated 1 July 2002
1st Battalion (Airborne) 509th Infantry
Task: Prescribe wear and appearance
of the Army Green Dress Uniform and
the Army Blue Uniform for Enlisted
Soldiers.
Condition: Classroom environment
with either uniform on a hanger.
Standards: Correctly assemble and
wear either uniform in accordance
with Army regulations.

The Army Green Dress Uniform
When the Class A Service Uniform is worn with the white
shirt and black bow tie, it becomes the Army Green Dress
Uniform.
When worn as the Green Dress Uniform, the rules regarding
what can be worn change:

•Belt with brass buckle and tip
•Coat, black, all weather
•Cuff links, gold (on white shirt with French cuffs)
•Black dress gloves
•Black scarf
•White shirt
•Black Bow Tie (for functions after Retreat)
•Shoe, black, oxford (low quarter)
•Fourrageres, lanyards, infantry cords
•Enlisted U.S. Insignia and Branch Insignia
•Grade Insignia
•Service Stripes and Overseas Service Stripes
•Regimental Distinctive Insignia
•Nameplate
•Full-size medals or ribbons
•Unit awards
•All U.S. badges, marksmanship, special skill and combat
•Foreign badges
•Beret (Before Retreat only)

Combat and Special Skill Badges and Tabs; Rules:
Rule 1: You can wear up to five combat and special skill badges at one time; this total
does not include special skill tabs (Ranger, SF).
Rule 2: You can wear only one badge each from groups 1,2, and 3, three badges from
group 4 and two badges from group 5. The total number cannot exceed five badges
Rule 3: You may wear up to three badges from groups 1 through 3 above the ribbons
or pocket flap.
Rule 4: When no badges from groups 1 through 3 are worn, you may wear three badges
from groups 4 and 5 above the ribbons or pocket flap.
Rule 5: When three badges are worn above the ribbons or pocket flap, you may wear
three Badges (including marksmanship badges) on the pocket flap.
Rule 6: There is no precedence for special skill badges within the same group. (Example:
Parachutist badge, Air Assault, Pathfinder – neither has precedence over the other).
However, there is precedence between the groups, I.e. Group 1 has precedence over group
2, and so forth.
Rule 7: Combat badges take precedence over special skill badges (CIB over EIB).

Marksmanship Badges; Rules:
Rule 1: You may wear up to three marksmanship badges on the pocket flap.
Rule 2: You may attach up to three clasps (bars) per marksmanship badge.
Rule 3: Only a total of three marksmanship or special skill badges can be worn on the
pocket flap.
Rule 4: Marksmanship badges are worn in order of precedence from the wearer’s right and
to the left of any special skill badges.
